Mazda hails from the “Land of the Rising Sun” and is a renowned car brand not only in Japan but also worldwide. Established in 1920 in Hiroshima, Japan, Mazda was originally named Toyo Cork Kogyo and later changed to Toyo Kogyo. The first Mazda sedans were produced in 1940 but were temporarily discontinued due to the war. When it returned, Mazda quickly developed and gained fame for its rotary engines in 1959.
In 1994, the first Mazda cars were imported, assembled, and sold in the Vietnamese market through the Hoa Binh Automobile Joint Stock Company (VMC). However, by 2005, this joint venture discontinued production. It was not until 2011 that Mazda made a comeback in Vietnam through the VinaMazda company, a subsidiary of Thaco.
On March 25, 2018, Thaco inaugurated and put into operation the most advanced Mazda automobile manufacturing plant in the region. This plant is located in the Chu Lai industrial zone with a total area of 30.3 hectares, of which the factory’s area accounts for 17.3 hectares. The current production capacity of the THACO Mazda automobile plant is 50,000 vehicles per year. In the future, THACO will continue to increase the capacity of the plant to 100,000 vehicles per year and plans to export to other markets in the region.
The Mazda brand in Vietnam primarily focuses on the sedan, SUV, and pickup truck segments, with advantages such as good handling and beautiful design. The sales volume of Mazda vehicles is quite good, helping Thaco further consolidate its market share in the automotive market.
