The luxury MPV market in China has witnessed significant growth in recent years, reflecting the booming economy of the populous country and the increasing purchasing power of the affluent population. MPVs are no longer just means of transportation, they have become status symbols for the wealthier buyers in this East Asian nation.
Leading the MPV trend was the Toyota Alphard, followed by other car brands introducing luxury MPV models. The luxury arm of Dongfeng Motors – Voyah – also joined the game, introducing the Voyah Dreamer model not long ago.
Specifically, this MPV model has a 2+2+3 seating configuration. Compared to the latest MPV models joining this segment in China such as Denza D9, Trumpchi M8, the Dreamer has a simpler design with chrome details that create accents. It also comes with a set of spiral-shaped multi-spoke wheels, sized at 20 inches. The car has an air suspension system that lowers the rear axle after users open the luggage compartment.
The cabin impresses with a modern design, but not yet truly luxurious, featuring 3 large screens placed on the dashboard, including the instrument cluster, the central infotainment screen, and the entertainment screen for passengers. This is a trademark design of Chinese car manufacturers, which can be overwhelming for users with its technology despite not being widely used.
The highlight of MPV models is always the second and third-row seats. In this model, the second-row seats consist of two independent business-class seats, equipped with heating, cooling, and massage functions. The third-row seats are also a plus for the Dreamer with its spaciousness.
Performance may not be the aspect that buyers are most concerned about in the MPV segment, but the Voyah Dreamer has an impressive performance. In this plug-in hybrid version, the car has a maximum output of 560 horsepower and a torque of 842 Nm. This power comes from the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine under the hood, combined with two electric motors on two axles. According to the manufacturer, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.
An equally important information is that the Voyah brand will sell the Dreamer in some European countries before the end of this year. In China, this MPV model has a starting price of $46,500 (~ 1.12 billion VND), with the highest-end version starting at $64,300 (~ 1.56 billion VND).
Compared to the Toyota Alphard 2023 model sold in the populous country, the Voyah Dreamer has a higher starting price as the Japanese MPV is listed at $45,020 (~ 1.09 billion VND). It can be seen that Chinese car manufacturers are gradually finding their own path by not only positioning themselves in the mass market segment but also venturing into the luxury segment.
