Hollywood superstar Robert Downey Jr. has made millions of dollars playing the iconic role of Iron Man. This has allowed him to indulge in some pretty unique pursuits off-screen, much like the character he portrays.

For his latest car purchase, Robert Downey enlisted the help of custom car shop SpeedKore to modify a few details on his 1974 BMW 3.0 CS. The result is a blend of modern materials and classic European design.

The car is adorned with carbon fiber and wood veneer.

While keeping the original metal body of the car, SpeedKore added carbon fiber in the front, front bumper, and lower side skirts, along with custom HRE wheels forged from gunmetal with Pirelli P Zero tires and Brembo brakes (featuring 6-piston calipers in the front and 4-piston calipers in the rear).

The custom paint job in brick red, reminiscent of Iron Man’s suit, is another standout feature. The car also features unique gray woodgrain graphics on parts such as the rear spoiler and distinctive trim around the body.

While the exterior underwent significant changes involving “modern materials,” the interior was also modified to maintain the classic European feel.

SpeedKore created an Italian-inspired cabin with chocolate leather upholstery featuring intricate gray stone embroidery details, complemented by vintage-style gauges and a hidden touchscreen display to preserve the car’s classic aesthetics.

The cabin retains its classic appearance.

The Nardi steering wheel and dashboard of the car feature the same gray woodgrain as the exterior. Even the rear seats and trunk have special touches, with the back seats replaced by a continuous sitting area connected to the trunk compartment.

As for the powertrain details and performance, not much has been revealed yet. However, it is expected that the 1974 BMW 3.0 CS will still be equipped with a 2.5L 6-cylinder engine similar to the BMW M5 E34, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

SpeedKore is known for their custom muscle car projects in the United States, and this is their first venture into customizing a classic European car. They have previously collaborated with Robert Downey on projects involving the restoration of a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro.
