Introduced in 1961, the E-Type is one of the legendary models of the British brand Jaguar. In fact, the Jaguar E-Type has been voted the most beautiful car in the world.
To bring the iconic beauty of the past into the modern era, Jaguar has unveiled the E-Type Zero with a secret under the hood. This is the result of the restoration department of Jaguar Land Rover.
From the outside, many people would not be able to guess the secret hidden inside the Jaguar E-Type Zero. The exterior design of this car is no different from the original Jaguar E-Type.
The Jaguar E-Type Zero still features a beautiful body with gentle curves, a soft blue color, classic wire wheels, a “long and winding” hood, and a short tail.
The only change to the exterior of the Jaguar E-Type Zero is perhaps the LED headlights which provide better lighting and energy efficiency.
Inside the Jaguar E-Type Zero is an interior designed in a “retro-modern” style. The dashboard of the Jaguar E-Type Zero has been completely redesigned with a digital display that looks like the original analog type.
There is also a touchscreen and rotary selector like in the newer Jaguar models. The metal three-spoke steering wheel with wooden outer rim is still retained as in the original.
When starting the Jaguar E-Type Zero, you will discover the secret mentioned above because you won’t hear the noise of the engine. The reason is that the original 4.2-liter XK inline-six gasoline engine of the Jaguar E-Type has been replaced by a specially designed electric motor with a maximum power of 220 horsepower. Compared to the original engine of the Jaguar E-Type, this electric motor is 30 horsepower stronger.
The electric motor is located in the traditional gearbox position, behind the 40 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This battery pack has a size and weight equivalent to a conventional 6-cylinder gasoline engine. At the same time, the battery pack is positioned similar to the original V6 engine to not affect the suspension or brakes.
The power from the electric motor is transmitted to the rear axle, helping the Jaguar E-Type Zero accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, about 1 second faster than the original Series 1 E-Type. After fully charging the battery in about 6 hours, depending on the power source, the car can complete a range of 270 km.
According to Jaguar, the E-Type Zero inherits technology and components from the electric drivetrain of the upcoming I-Pace SUV model. In particular, this drivetrain can be fitted to any Jaguar model using the XK inline-six engine such as XK120, Mark 2, and XJ6.
