Recently, the Australian and New Zealand New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) released safety test results for the MG5 mid-size sedan.

When introduced in Australia, the MG5 was not highly rated due to its poor safety features such as emergency brake assist, ABS brakes, front seatbelt reminders, and 6 airbags. As a result, the price of this car in Australia is at the lower end of the segment, ranging from 24,990 – 28,990 AUD (approximately 407 – 472 million VND).

After undergoing the strictest and most rigorous test categories for the 2023 – 2025 ANCAP standards, the MG5 received a 0-star rating on the 5-star scale. This rating applies to both the Vibe and Essence versions of MG5 in the Australian market.

Throughout the testing process, the MG5 received a good rating thanks to its rigid and stable cabin structure, as well as its ability to protect the driver in a full side impact crash at 60km/h and a side impact crash with a rigid pole (simulating trees and light poles) at 32km/h, achieving a “Good” or “Adequate” level of protection.

Of the 9 car models tested by ANCAP in 2023, besides the MG5 and Mahindra Scorpio receiving a 0-star rating, the rest of the cars achieved the highest 5-star rating, including the BMW Series 5, Kia EV9, Mercedes EQE, Renault Megane E-Tech, Skoda Enyaq, BYD Dolpin, and BYD Seal.

In addition to ANCAP, the MG5 has not been assessed by other organizations such as Euro NCAP or ASEAN NCAP.

In Vietnam, the MG5 was officially introduced in March 2022. By the end of September, the company introduced a new version called the New MG5. The car is available in 3 versions: 1.5L MT, 1.5L CVT STD, and 1.5L CVT Delux, with prices ranging from 399 to 459 to 499 million VND.

Although it’s a new model, this car is frequently offered with promotions by dealers to stimulate sales.
