In November 2023, the Vietnamese automobile market showed signs of recovery as it entered the end-of-year shopping season. However, in the mid-size sedan segment, not every model saw an increase in sales, including the “segment leader” Toyota Camry.

Sales table for mid-size sedans in November 2023 (unit: cars)

Toyota Camry: 133 units

In November 2023, only 133 people chose the Toyota Camry as their new four-wheeled companion, a decrease of 12.5% compared to the previous month. However, this Japanese sedan remains the best-selling mid-size sedan in the Vietnamese market both in November 2023 and throughout the year.

Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry in Vietnam is currently available in 4 variants with prices ranging from 1.105 to 1.495 billion VND. Despite its relatively high price, this mid-size sedan continues to dominate the segment thanks to its reputable brand, elegant design, well-equipped features, comprehensive safety, and a wide range of engine options.

Specifically, the Toyota Camry in Vietnam offers up to 3 engine options, the most in the segment. First is the 2.0L gasoline engine with a maximum power of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 206 Nm, paired with a CVT transmission. Next is the 2.5L gasoline engine, which generates a maximum power of 207 horsepower and a peak torque of 250 Nm, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Finally, there is the hybrid powertrain option with a combination of a gasoline engine, an electric motor, and a CVT transmission, producing a total power output of 264 horsepower.

In addition, the Toyota Camry also comes with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 active safety package, which includes modern features such as lane keeping assist, emergency automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, and intelligent headlights. The higher-end variants of the car also feature 8 sensors and a 360-degree camera.

Kia K5: 102 units

In recent months, the Kia K5 has consistently surpassed the Mazda6 and ranked 2nd in the mid-size sedan segment. In November 2023, the model sold 102 units, an increase of 7.3%.

Kia K5

Compared to the Toyota Camry, the Kia K5 has the advantage of a lower price range, ranging from 859 to 999 million VND. Being assembled locally, the Kia K5 also enjoys a 50% reduction in the registration fee from the Vietnamese government until the end of 2023.

Furthermore, the Kia K5 boasts a youthful and stylish exterior design. It is also equipped with notable features such as LED headlights, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, power-adjustable front passenger seat, head-up display (HUD), 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bose 12-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, remote engine start, and wireless phone charging.

Under the hood, the Kia K5 offers 2 engine options. The first is the 2.0L Nu MPI engine, producing a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The second option is the 2.5L Theta-III GDi engine, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, generating a maximum power of 191 horsepower and a peak torque of 246 Nm. The car is front-wheel drive.

Mazda6: 85 units

Similarly to its rival, the Kia K5, the Mazda6 also saw a slight increase in sales in November 2023. The model sold 85 units, up 3.6%. However, this is still not enough for the Mazda6 to improve its ranking and surpass the Kia K5 and Toyota Camry.

Mazda6

The highlight of the Mazda6 is its lowest price range in the segment, starting from 779 to 914 million VND. Moreover, being locally assembled, the car also benefits from a 50% reduction in the registration fee from the Vietnamese government. Despite its affordable price, along with its attractive design and well-equipped features and safety, the Mazda6 still cannot surpass the Toyota Camry.

The Mazda6 is equipped with notable safety features such as blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive LED headlights, lane departure warning, and 6 airbags. If equipped with the optional i-Activsense package, the car will also have additional features such as radar-based cruise control, forward/reverse emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and smart brake support (SBS).

Under the hood, the Mazda6 offers 2 gasoline engine options, both using a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0L SkyActiv-G engine delivers a maximum power of 154 horsepower and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The corresponding figures for the 2.5L SkyActiv-G engine are 188 horsepower and 252 Nm.

Honda Accord: 10 units

Once again, the last position in the mid-size sedan segment belongs to the Honda Accord. In November, the model sold 10 units, a 42.8% increase in growth.

Honda Accord

There are multiple factors contributing to the low sales of the Honda Accord and its continuous presence among the least popular models in Vietnam. Firstly, the car only has 1 variant with a high price of up to 1.319 billion VND. Being a completely imported vehicle, the Honda Accord also does not benefit from the Vietnamese government’s registration fee reduction policy.

Of course, this Japanese model still has its advantages such as spacious interior and highly-rated driving experience in the segment. It is powered by a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 1.5L gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 188 horsepower and a peak torque of 260 Nm. The engine is paired with a CVT transmission featuring Eco and Sport driving modes.

In addition, it is equipped with active safety features similar to its competitors, including pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, adaptive automatic headlights, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
