With modern features and eye-catching appearance, Omoda 5 promises to be an interesting choice in the B-segment SUV/CUV market in Vietnam.
Although information about Omoda 5 being launched in Vietnam has been available since last year, the Chinese-brand B-segment CUV has not officially debuted yet. However, Omoda 5 has been displayed publicly in Vietnam to gather opinions and feedback from experts and consumers. Recently, the Chinese automaker also revealed some information about the equipment list of Omoda 5.
Accordingly, Omoda 5 sold in the Vietnamese market has a turbocharged 1.5L petrol engine, delivering 150 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque at 1,750-4,500 rpm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 9.9 seconds, and the fuel consumption is 7.1 liters/100km. Therefore, Omoda 5 sold in Vietnam will not have a 1.6L I4 engine like in the Chinese market.
In addition, this B-segment CUV also owns many modern safety features, including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, emergency automatic braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive automatic high beams.
Omoda 5 has dimensions of 4,400 x 1,830 x 1,588 mm in length, width, and height, respectively. This size is slightly larger than its B-segment SUV/CUV competitors such as the Kia Seltos or Honda HR-V. The car impresses with its stylish exterior design thanks to the new Art in Motion philosophy. This is also the first SUV from Chery to apply this design philosophy.
Omoda 5 features a large-size full-width grille with a bold design accompanied by a two-tier headlight system. In addition, there is a narrow “T”-shaped LED daytime running light. The body design slopes towards the rear, and the windows are narrow. The car is equipped with 18-inch dual-tone 5-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear, there are horizontally arranged taillights and rectangular-shaped faux exhaust tips positioned quite high.
Inside, Omoda 5 is equipped with two 10.25-inch floating screens on the dashboard face, following the style of luxury cars. Moreover, this CUV also has a sporty-bottomed steering wheel and body-hugging sports seats. The seats can be combined with various colors according to the youthful spirit applied to the car. Other prominent features include wireless smartphone charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a 64-color ambient lighting system.
Previously, there was information that Omoda 5 would be distributed in Vietnam with 3 variants: COM, LUX, and PRE with expected prices of 699 million VND, 749 million VND, and 799 million VND, respectively. If this information is accurate, Omoda 5 will have a difficult time competing because most of its competitors in this CUV segment have starting prices below 700 million VND. Specifically, the current price range of Kia Seltos is 604-714 million VND, while Hyundai Creta is priced at 640-740 million VND. Toyota Yaris Cross is priced relatively high, ranging from 730-838 million VND, and it is also currently offering discounts of nearly 100 million VND to attract customers.
