The Volvo EM90 2024 is specially designed for Chinese users, where this all-electric MPV model will compete with many other internal combustion engine models such as the Lexus LM. Currently, Volvo has no plans to introduce this new model in Western markets.
The Swedish automaker stated that the Volvo EM90 2024 is inspired by the 1953 Duett, a wagon model that existed until 1969. In addition, the EM90 has a similar design to the Zeekr 009, a new MPV model from the Geely Group. These two electric minivans are almost like twins with very similar designs, except for the unique Volvo grille of the EM90, the Thor’s Hammer headlights, and a few eye-catching decorative details.
Essentially, the EM90 can be considered as a Volvo-clothed Zeekr 009. The car has overall dimensions of 5,209 x 2,024 x 1,867 (mm) in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm.
The new EM90 is equipped with a single 268 horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. This drivetrain allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. The car is equipped with a CATL 116 kWh battery pack, supporting DC fast charging from 10-80% in 30 minutes. The EM90 has a range of 738 km according to the CLTC standard in China.
Moving inside, the interior of the EM90 is spacious and modernly designed with many technologies. Designed to be both a luxurious family car and a mobile office on wheels, the EM90 has a 2+2+2 seating arrangement. The seats are comfortable, with electric adjustable backrests, heating, cooling, and foldable tray tables.
Passengers in the rear seats can make use of the 15.6-inch screen for entertainment or online meetings.
In terms of the driver’s cabin, we can see a minimalist yet elegant and modern design. The dashboard stands out with a 15.4-inch tablet-style infotainment screen with very few physical buttons.
The EM90 is equipped with a comprehensive advanced driver-assistance system that utilizes a full suite of sensors, including high-resolution cameras, surround-view cameras, millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic radar.
The new EM90 will be sold exclusively in the Chinese market with prices starting from 818,000 Chinese yuan, equivalent to around $114,000 USD at the current exchange rate.
