In addition to Rolls-Royce and Bentley, Vietnamese tycoons are increasingly playing with vintage sports cars such as Porsche and Ford. One of these models is the Porsche 930 Turbo, which has been owned by at least 5 renowned players.

This 930 Turbo Cabriolet is owned by a Saigon tycoon and is the only one in Vietnam at the moment. While there is only one convertible version, there are 4 different hardtop versions in the country. One of these 4 is part of the collection of hundreds of cars owned by Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu.

The Porsche 930 Turbo is a historical car produced by the German brand between 1975 and 1989. It is considered as a turbocharged variant of the iconic 911 model. The automaker from Stuttgart began developing turbocharging technology for the 930. This technology was initially used to legitimize the regulations for street-legal racing cars.

The first generation (1975-1977) saw 2,819 units rolling off the factory floor, but the upgraded version (1978-1989) increased the production number to a staggering 18,770 units. The 930 Turbo Cabriolet owned by the Saigon tycoon is part of the upgraded version, making it over 30 years old.

The exterior of the car is painted in glossy black, but it is unclear whether this is a repaint or the original color from the German factory. This color has never been seen on the hardtop versions of the 930 Turbo in Vietnam. The lighting system features the signature “frog eye” design, using halogen bulbs.

The dimensions of the car, including length, width, and height, are 4,291mm x 1,775mm x 1,311mm, with a wheelbase of 2,272mm. Depending on the model, the weight of the car ranges from 1,210kg to 1,379kg – quite light for a high-performance sports car. This car features the legendary Fuchs Clover Leaf 5-spoke wheels, which are a trademark of Porsche.

The rear end of the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet follows the simple design language used on other German cars, with dual exhaust pipes directed towards the driver’s side. The rear light cluster stands out thanks to its elongated reflector strip, hidden underneath is the Porsche logo.

The large rear spoiler is always a highlight of Porsche 930 Turbo models. Some people describe this spoiler as a “whale tail,” but according to Porsche enthusiasts from that era, only the 930 Turbo models produced before 1978 had the “whale tail” design, as the upgraded version switched to a flatter rear spoiler.

The heart of the unique Porsche 930 Turbo Cabriolet in Vietnam is its 3.3-liter turbocharged engine (0.3 liters larger than its predecessor), generating a maximum output of 296 horsepower and 412 Nm of torque (40 horsepower and 83 Nm more than the previous 930 Turbo engine). The power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds before reaching a top speed of 257 km/h.

As a brand famous for its impressive driving experience, this Porsche 930 Turbo is no exception. However, the car has been considered difficult to drive due to its short wheelbase and rear-engine placement. With this vintage sports car, there is still a tendency for oversteer and turbo lag, as the 930 Turbo was one of the first models in the world to use a turbocharged engine. After decades, it is still highly sought after by car enthusiasts worldwide.

With prices ranging from 100,000 to 190,000 USD on the international market depending on the quality, a hardtop or convertible Porsche 930 Turbo would be valued at no less than 20 billion VND if brought to Vietnam. However, according to regulations, importing used cars older than 5 years is extremely difficult.
