According to the recent sales report, BYD sold 526,409 pure electric vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2023. This sales figure is significantly higher than Tesla’s (484,507 vehicles).
For the whole year, BYD delivered a total of 1,574,822 pure electric vehicles to customers, representing a 72.8% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Meanwhile, Tesla’s pure electric vehicle sales in 2023 reached 1,808,581 vehicles, a 38% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
Although the fourth-quarter sales growth was strong, BYD’s annual sales still lagged significantly behind Tesla’s. However, this also reflects the “position” of the electric vehicle giant Tesla being significantly shaken by BYD.
By the end of 2023, BYD recorded a total sales of 3,024,417 vehicles, including plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles, representing a 62.3% growth. However, this sales figure is still significantly lower than Tesla’s.
Not only successful in the electric vehicle sector, in 2023, BYD also made an impression in the battery production field. The company’s batteries for new energy vehicles reached a total capacity of 150.909 GWh, making BYD the second-largest company in the electric vehicle battery field after CATL.
In 2024, BYD is expected to expand its production activities and invest in the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving systems to enhance its technological autonomy.
