In this generation, Corolla was designed with front-wheel drive, except for the AE85 and AE86 models of Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno (SR-5/GT-S in the US) which continued to use rear-wheel drive.
Toyota Corolla mainly comes in 2 versions, the 3-door and 5-door of sedan and hatchback models, depending on the market, the car will have its own designation. When sold in the US, in partnership with General Motors, improved versions of the AE82 sedan model were sold under a completely different name, Chevrolet Nova.
