After its introduction in Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, the new Honda CR-V 2024 has recently been launched in the Malaysian market with three versions using internal combustion engines, including 1.5 S, 1.5 E, and 1.5 V; and one hybrid version, the 2.0 e:HEV RS.

The Japanese car maker has only announced the prices of the 1.5 S, 1.5 E, and 1.5 V versions, which are 159,900 RM (~ 797 million VND), 169,900 RM (~ 847 million VND), and 181,900 RM (~ 907 million VND), respectively. Compared to Vietnam, the prices of the CR-V 2024 in Malaysia are much cheaper. At this price point, the CR-V will be a formidable competitor to the Mazda CX-5, which currently dominates the Crossover C segment.

The 1.5 S, 1.5 E, and 1.5 V AWD versions are all equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L VTEC engine. Similar to the previous generation, the power output of this turbocharged engine remains unchanged at 190 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and torque of 243 Nm from 1,700 to 5,000 rpm. It is still paired with the familiar CVT automatic transmission. The top speed of all three versions is capped at 200 km/h.

As for the top-of-the-line hybrid version, it is equipped with the Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system, similar to the one found on the Civic e:HEV RS, which combines the operation of an electric motor and a gasoline engine. The 2.0L naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine mainly acts as a generator, producing an output of 146 horsepower and 190 Nm of torque. The electric motor, on the other hand, produces 181 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque.

In Thailand, the CR-V Hybrid is available in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, but in the Malaysian market, the CR-V e:HEV only comes with front-wheel drive, similar to the Vietnamese market, with power transferred to the front wheels through the e-CVT gearbox.

In terms of exterior, the sixth-generation C-segment crossover is equipped with automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, and standard LED taillights on all versions. The 1.5 E version adds front fog lights and a kick sensor for the trunk, while the V AWD version features chrome-plated exhaust pipes. The RS version adds roof rails, black accents, and RS badges.

Concerning the wheels, the standard S version comes with 17-inch double-spoke wheels in Sparkle Silver, while the E and V versions come with the same 18-inch wheels. The e:HEV RS version comes with 18-inch black wheels with a sportier design.

Inside, the interior design is similar to the Honda CR-V 2024 currently sold in Vietnam. All versions are equipped with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, while the RS Hybrid version features a larger 10.25-inch display. Other standard features include remote engine start, keyless entry, cruise control, and a 9-inch infotainment display.

However, the standard 1.5 S version disappoints users with black fabric seats and manually adjustable front seats. From the E version onwards, the seats and steering wheel are wrapped in leather. The RS version, in particular, is equipped with premium Bose speakers and Adaptive Driving Beam for the LED headlights.

Honda Sensing is a standard feature on the Honda CR-V 2024 in Malaysia. The list includes some upgrades such as a new 90-degree view camera and an improved 120-degree scanning radar for enhanced emergency response capabilities, such as lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. The LaneWatch side camera system continues to be equipped instead of a blind spot monitor.

In Vietnam, the Honda CR-V 2024 is currently available in four versions: G, L, e:HEV RS, and L AWD, with prices ranging from 1.109 – 1.310 billion VND. This pricing is significantly higher compared to the Malaysian market. The CR-V competes with rivals such as the Mazda CX-5 (priced at 749-999 million VND), Hyundai Tucson (priced at 769-899 million VND), Ford Territory (priced at 822-935 million VND), and more.
