CES is one of the largest consumer electronics and technology exhibitions in the world. In recent years, the exhibition has also been a showcase for the latest technologies from various automakers. The upcoming CES 2024 exhibition next month is no exception.

Similar to VinFast, Hyundai, the South Korean car manufacturer, will also be present at the CES 2024 exhibition. Hyundai will unveil a concept car called Mobion, which has the ability to move sideways like a crab.

Prior to the opening of the exhibition, Hyundai released a short video teaser of the concept car. The highlight of the Mobion is the e-Corner system developed by Hyundai Mobis. Hyundai Mobis specializes in technology and components for Hyundai.

In fact, Hyundai previously introduced the e-Corner technology on the Ioniq 5 prototype in early January. The e-Corner provides three features: Zero Turn, Pivot Turn, and Diagonal Driving. Diagonal Driving allows the wheels to rotate up to 90 degrees, enabling the four wheels to be perpendicular to the body of the car and allowing the car to move sideways like a crab.

With Pivot Turn, the two front wheels remain stationary while the two rear wheels rotate 90 degrees. With this feature, the car can rotate like a compass.

With Zero Turn, the wheels rotate at a 45-degree angle, with the front wheel facing the opposite direction of the rear wheel. This feature allows the car to rotate 360 degrees in place.

In addition to the e-Corner technology, the Mobion concept car also features the Interaction Lighting system. The Mobion will be equipped with lighting systems that run from the front of the car to the sides and back. Sequential lighting strips will also be present on both the front and rear ends of the car, with integrated hidden Mobis logos.

According to Hyundai, the Mobion concept car has no connection to the currently available Ioniq 5 electric car or any future Hyundai models. Instead, the Mobion was created to showcase the technology developed by Hyundai Mobis.

In addition to Mobion, Hyundai also unveiled the Innovative Transparent Display technology at the CES 2024 exhibition. This is a flip and rotate display that uses 3D pop-up images to display necessary information to the driver without obstructing their view.

According to Mobis, the flip-up transparent display provides a sense of openness that fixed displays cannot match. It can be considered as the next step in head-up display (HUD) technology for cars.

This display can also enlarge images on the windshield so that the driver can check important information such as the remaining battery capacity. The images are placed within the driver’s line of sight but do not obstruct the view. Mobis believes that this new display technology will change the interior of cars in the future.

Similarly, VinFast also participated in the CES 2024 exhibition with an electric pickup truck concept. In addition, VinFast introduced the urban electric SUV VF3 and the DrgnFly electric bicycle at the exhibition.
