The Mazda CX-80 will essentially be a larger 3-row version of the CX-60. Therefore, it is highly likely that the car will have a similar exterior design as the CX-60. The differences between the two models are minimal, with the most notable changes being longer rear doors, a redesigned lower rear bumper, and wider D-pillars.

Moving inside, the CX-80 is expected to have a cabin layout similar to the shorter CX-60 and larger CX-90. This is not a bad thing, but we would like to see more distinct differences between the models.

The good news is that passengers in the rear seats will have more legroom for both the second and third rows. Unlike the 8-seater CX-90, the CX-80 will be a 7-seater version.

The interior amenities will include a digital gauge cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, a heads-up display, interior ambient lighting…

The CX-80 is built on Mazda’s large-size rear-wheel-drive platform. It is likely that the car will have better stability when driving on rough terrain compared to the CX-60.

The new Mazda SUV will have a longer wheelbase than the CX-60 at 2,870 mm. However, it may not exceed the 3,119 mm wheelbase of the CX-90 in the North American market.

Under the hood, the CX-80 will be offered with various engine options. The options include a mild hybrid diesel engine, e-Skyactiv D 3.3L, inline 6-cylinder, producing 251 horsepower; a mild hybrid e-Skyactiv-G 3.3L gasoline engine, inline 6-cylinder, producing 280 horsepower; and a plug-in hybrid 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, producing 323 horsepower. All models will be equipped with Mazda’s unique 8-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

In addition, some sources suggest that the Mazda CX-80 will also be offered with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine called the e-Skyactiv X. There is limited information about this engine, but it will be one of the most fuel-efficient inline 6-cylinder engines to date.

When launched, the CX-80 will face stiff competition from a range of competitors, from the BMW X3 to models such as the Peugeot 5008, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail, Kia Sorento, and Skoda Kodiaq… The CX-80 will be officially unveiled later this year in Europe.
