Recently, McLaren Automotive has unveiled the new GTS model as a replacement for the “predecessor” GT.
The McLaren GTS is lightweight and features a design that will satisfy owners who seek exceptional performance, excitement, and comfort when driving a McLaren. The interior space of the car offers elegance and a spacious luggage compartment suitable for daily operations as well as long journeys.
While maintaining the appealing core values of McLaren’s design style and prioritizing functionality, the GTS stands out in terms of power-to-weight ratio – thanks to the lightweight carbon fiber structure in the chassis – and exceptional dynamic performance. The new GTS model has a more aggressive appearance and is supplemented with many options for both exterior and interior.
The elegant exterior lines of the GT are still preserved in the overall appearance and aerodynamic design of the GTS. However, there are new improvements that give the GTS a more aggressive impression. At the front of the GTS, the distinctive racing-style front design has been upgraded with a lower front port. In this area, we can also see a new, more sculpted and wider air intake to allow more air into the cooling system. The front air splitters are now equipped with an optional glossy carbon fiber material, showcasing the racing spirit of McLaren and giving the GTS a more menacing look. At the rear fender, the new air vents – also made from glossy carbon fiber – are placed higher. Similar to the front end, the improvements on the rear fender enhance the function of directing a large airflow more effectively into the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine.
The large twin exhaust system also contributes to the muscular appearance of the GTS, with the option of a sports exhaust system – this is also part of the option package that provides the original sound of a supercar. The standard package will come with a gloss paint finish on the exhaust pipes, mirror caps, and window surround to create a subtle exterior appearance. The new GTS badge, including the new side badges, can be painted black upon request from the Stealth Badge Pack option. If owners want to showcase carbon fiber details, McLaren offers an option package that exposes carbon fiber on the underbody details, front splitters, side skirts, rear diffuser, and diffuser. The exterior details such as front and rear air vents, rear fenders, and mirror covers are also included in this comprehensive option.
The one-piece Monocell II-T carbon fiber chassis on the GTS is very solid, lightweight, and offers high stiffness to enclose the mid-mounted engine. The standard roof is made from recycled carbon fiber material, which is one of the weight reduction solutions in the process of creating an optimized McLaren GTS in terms of performance and dynamics. These choices and solutions allow GTS owners to have a lightweight supercar, with an exciting driving experience and minimal unwanted noise and vibrations during travel.
With a weight of only 1,520 kg (DIN), the GTS is the lightest car in its segment, with the best power-to-weight ratio – only 418 horsepower/ton. The power of the twin-turbocharged V8 M840TE 4.0-liter engine has been raised to 635 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, an additional 15 horsepower, thanks to the improved torque from enhanced combustion and adjusted ignition timing. The GTS can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The maximum speed of the car is 326 km/h.
The GTS is equipped with a 7-speed SSG transmission, providing smooth and quick gear changes in default mode at startup, ensuring good acceleration capability and comfortable gear shifting. The driver can enhance the driving experience with two additional modes, Sport and Track, through the Active Dynamic control panel. The Sport mode brings high intensity and excitement, thanks to the temporary cut of ignition that provides faster and more powerful gear shifts. The Track mode takes the experience to an even higher level, maximizing the gearbox’s performance while minimizing torque losses between shifts. The driver can manually shift gears via the paddles on the steering wheel in any driving mode.
The hydraulic-electric steering system has been fine-tuned, the suspension system features adaptive damping with active shock control, and the powerful carbon ceramic brakes are unique features of the GTS. These elements optimize the mid-mounted positioning of the V8 engine and lightweight structure of the car, providing a true supercar driving experience with a focus on balance and agility. Moreover, the GTS does not compromise the driving experience with comfort or operating quality.
The GTS steering system provides superior feedback and sensation due to its high precision, and the system automatically increases the level of support at low speeds for ease of movement, such as parking or driving in crowded areas.
The GTS is equipped with 390mm front and 380mm rear forged alloy disc brakes, all made from carbon ceramic material. The lightweight aluminum brake calipers, six-piston at the front and four-piston at the rear, provide superior sensation and performance, capable of bringing a vehicle moving at a speed of 100 km/h to a complete stop in just 32 meters.
The hydraulic dual valve adaptive damping system – provided by Monroe, McLaren Automotive’s official Smart Suspension supplier – is the foundation of the double wishbone suspension system made from lightweight aluminum in the car. With adaptive damping technology – Proactive Damper Control – the characteristics of the suspension system will change between three driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Track. The system adapts and provides different driving experiences, from maximum comfort in Comfort mode to strong damper control in Track mode for dynamic driving capabilities.
The McLaren GTS also provides excellent handling and comfort when driving in urban areas. The large front view and comfortable rear windows, along with the Men coated B-pillar and large one-quarter window, ensure clear rear visibility. The ground clearance is 110mm and can be raised to 130mm through the vehicle’s lift function. This function on the GTS, improved from the GT model’s system, can be raised and lowered in just 4 seconds – twice as fast as the predecessor.
The rear structure at the top of the car is made from carbon fiber, also part of the overall single-piece chassis structure design, which creates a spacious and flexible luggage compartment. With a volume of 420 liters, the rear luggage area features a maximum length glass-opening door, power operation, and soft-close function. Additionally, there is an additional 150-liter luggage space under the front hood. With a total luggage capacity of up to 570 liters, the McLaren GTS is currently the most practical commercial supercar.
Compatible with the practicality of the GTS is the interior compartment, which is designed to be in harmony with the car’s performance and still creates an elegant and luxurious space. The cabin provides comfort for passengers during long journeys while allowing the driver to maximize the superior driving capabilities of the car.
The premium and sophisticated cabin is a combination of materials that create an atmosphere of performance and luxury. Aluminum switches and controls are arranged throughout the interior, including paddle shifters on the steering wheel, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with a glossy black border, a gear shifter on the control area, air vents, and window switches. Carbon fiber material packages are available for the steering wheel hooks and paddle shifters, as well as other interior details.
In the standard package, the McLaren GTS comes with Comfort Nappa Leather seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Performance and TechLux interior packages provide owners with new and more unique designs. The Performance package brings a sporty, sharp, and technical touch with seats upholstered in Softgrain Aniline leather and Alcantara in Jet Black or Barolo colors, along with contrasting seat stitching. The Performance package also includes comfortable adjustable seats with electric heating. The new TechLux interior option package brings a sense of classic elegance while maintaining McLaren’s modern spirit. The interior of this package is equipped with Softgrain Aniline leather material in bold yet subtle colors, along with new “twin tube” pattern motifs on the seats.
The 10.25-inch digital display screen offers sharp and intuitive graphics, providing clearer information on speed, gear selection and RPM, along with an integrated GPS system to provide navigation instructions. The McLaren GTS also has an additional 7-inch vertical infotainment screen that responds very quickly thanks to the powerful 10-core processor and is easy to use with applications, operations, and input methods similar to smartphones. The HERE® navigation system displays real-time traffic information, connects to the phone via Bluetooth, and broadcasts multimedia along with digital radio broadcasting (DAB) features. The premium sound system on the McLaren GTS still comes from the familiar audio partner – Bowers & Wilkins, with a total of 12 speakers including carbon fiber subwoofers and Kevlar mid-range transmitters.
The interior lighting system has six colors hidden around the cabin. The GTS optimizes the use of natural light penetrating the car through the electrically adjustable panoramic glass roof – this is a replacement detail for the standard glossy black roof made from carbon fiber. With just one button on the control panel, the driver can adjust five levels of light transmission into the cabin. At the lowest setting, the glass roof provides a transparency level of 0.6%.
In addition to the expanded exterior paint color palette with new options such as Mantins Green, Tanzanite Blue, and Ice White, McLaren also brings a unique color for the GTS called Lava Grey. The metallic finish combined with a sparkling red stripe captures light and creates a special effect that makes it stand out from other shades of gray.
The new additions to the McLaren GTS include lightweight forged alloy Turbine wheels with 10 spokes, along with options for gray, gloss black, and gloss black with Diamond Cut and Orum effects. In the standard package available, the GTS will be equipped with standard forged 10-spoke alloy wheels, also accompanied by options for silver, gloss black, or gloss black with Diamond Cut effects and an exclusive Vonfram option. Both the standard and extended wheel options are equipped with lightweight titanium bolts, which are 35% lighter than standard ones. Long-time technical partner Pirelli has specifically developed P ZERO tires for the McLaren GTS, providing high performance and superior grip.
The McLaren GTS will be launched in 2024, accompanied by a standard three-year warranty with unlimited mileage and a three-year paint finish warranty. The extended warranty package for the McLaren GTS, purchased within 12-24 months, extends the total warranty period to 12 years. It is accompanied by the McLaren service package to maintain the car for three years.
