According to Motor1, Toyota has unveiled a sports electric vehicle at its fiscal-year 2022 earnings call.

During the presentation on Toyota’s electrification roadmap from now until 2026, a vehicle appeared in the Sports section, hinting at the possibility that the Japanese automaker will release a high-performance electric vehicle in the next three years.

However, it is still unclear whether the aforementioned high-performance electric vehicle will bear the Toyota or Lexus brand.

According to Motor1, following the introduction of the Electrified Sport concept in late 2021, Toyota is likely to commercialize this concept under the Lexus brand to replace the existing V10-powered LFA.

In fact, Toyota’s luxury subsidiary has confirmed that the aforementioned concept will serve as the template for the next-generation pure electric sports car, developed from the existing 2-seat Lexus LFA sports car. Based on the details revealed so far, the commercial version of the Electrified Sport will feature all-wheel drive, equivalent to a dual-motor setup.

In addition, it is likely that Toyota and Lexus will equip this high-performance electric vehicle with a simulated manual transmission, steer-by-wire system, and brake-by-wire system. The vehicle is said to be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds and have a maximum range of 700 km on a full charge.

If the aforementioned high-performance electric vehicle is branded as a Toyota, Motor1 believes it will be the Sport EV showcased alongside the Electrified Sport at the 2021 event. This vehicle is described as a “mid-size 2-seater” and is expected to compete with the Porsche 718 EV slated for release around 2025.

Toyota’s presentation also revealed that two luxury EVs will be launched in 2026, most likely under the Lexus brand. A compact electric vehicle in the same segment as the current Toyota bZ3 is also planned for release within the next 3 years, targeting emerging markets.

When launched in China in mid-April, the Toyota bZ3 electric vehicle quickly became a sensation in the populous country and garnered 5,000 orders on the first day of sales.
