Toyota Vietnam has announced that after Daihatsu Japan reported abnormalities in its certification procedures on April 28, 2023, an Independent Third-Party Committee was established and has since thoroughly investigated the matter.
On December 20, 2023, in Japan, after receiving the investigation results from the Independent Committee, Daihatsu reported the findings and investigation process to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. Subsequently, the Independent Committee, Daihatsu/Toyota held separate press conferences on this matter.
The investigation was carried out on 64 car models currently being produced and developed. These car models include Daihatsu branded vehicles and models developed or supplied for the Toyota brand and other brands.
Immediately after the aforementioned press conference in Japan, on the afternoon of December 20, Toyota Vietnam proactively suspended the transfer of all vehicles related to Daihatsu to dealerships to confirm more specific information for the Vietnamese market. However, after detailed investigation into the aforementioned abnormalities, Toyota Vietnam announced that only one affected model, Avanza Premio (MT), will be halted in Vietnam.
Specifically, according to the investigation results of the Independent Third-Party Committee, during emissions and fuel consumption testing abroad, there was one inappropriate modification on the Avanza Premio MT model. However, in Vietnam, all Avanza Premio models comply with testing regulations and are certified to meet Vietnamese standards.
Currently, Toyota Vietnam has temporarily ceased the delivery of Avanza Premio MT models to dealerships, as the certification of this model in foreign countries is under independent review by testing and certification agencies. Toyota Vietnam has immediately reported this case to management agencies to explain the situation and seek opinions on the matter.
The company will consider resuming the delivery of Avanza Premio MT models after receiving information from independent testing and certification agencies abroad.
