SCMP sources on June 4 reported that the two female victims, aged 22 and 26, lived together in Lung Mei Tsuen, Taipo. The two were fatally stabbed in a random attack at the Hollywood Plaza shopping center in Diamond Hill on the afternoon of June 2.
The two lived with another couple in a three-story house in the village. The house is only about 300 meters away from where model Abby Choi was murdered and dismembered in a killing spree in February. At that time, the police found the model’s skull, legs, and some ribs on the ground floor of the house. The rest of her body has still not been found.
A villager said the two victims were often seen traveling by private car.
“The girls often drive. It’s a cute car. They usually leave the house early in the morning and come back late,” the villager said.
Sources said the two had planned to attend the 26-year-old girl’s grandfather’s birthday party after leaving the Diamond Hill shopping center.
“I was really shocked when I heard the news just minutes after my family and I left the shopping center,” a shopper at Diamond Hill who left before the attack occurred said.
On June 2, a mentally unstable unemployed 39-year-old man bought a 30cm knife at a store in the shopping center. He then rushed at the two women from behind and stabbed the 22-year-old girl at least 25 times in one minute.
The police said the suspect did not know the victims. The attack has shocked Hong Kong, where violent crimes are extremely rare.
