Should you rent an electric car during Tet?

The convenience of gasoline cars compared to electric cars is undeniable. It only takes an average of 2 to 5 minutes to refuel once, while charging an electric car takes longer. For example, VinFast electric car users can choose fast charging mode with a charging power of 60 kW, enough to travel about 180 km after charging for about 18 minutes.
When charging VinFast electric cars at charging stations, customers have to pay 484 VND per km. Therefore, if the VinFast electric car is fully charged to travel about 180 km, the user will have to pay 87,120 VND, which is about the price of 4 liters of A95 III petrol according to the price on January 5, 2024.

For example, there is no need to go to a gas station when running out of fuel, electric car users can charge the battery right at home. With a travel distance of only 166 km from Hanoi to Thanh Hoa, Hung can completely enjoy the experience of driving the VinFast VF5 Plus electric car all the way home without worrying about running out of battery.
The operating cost of electric cars is also much cheaper than gasoline cars, so the demand for electric car rental during Tet is gradually increasing. With a distance of over 500 km from Dak Lak to Da Nang, Vy’s family is considering renting a VinFast VF9 Plus electric car for a 5-day holiday. VF9 Plus has a large size, a beautiful interior, and most importantly, it is the most high-end electric car of VinFast. Therefore, this year, Vy’s family wants to rent this car instead of a 7-seater car.
What is the price of VinFast electric car rental?
The increasing demand for electric car rentals is also when VinFast introduces a self-driving electric car rental program, competing with existing self-driving car rental services on the market. What is interesting is that the program includes not only a few models of cars but also various car models currently available on the market, from VF5 to VF9.
The rental package is also very flexible, including daily, monthly, yearly rentals, and importantly, there is also a 10-day rental package for the upcoming Tet holiday.
Specifically, according to our research, the daily rental prices for VinFast electric cars for each model are as follows: VF5 Plus is 720,000 VND; VF 34 is 1.05 million VND; VF8 Eco is 1.5 million VND; VF8 Plus is 1.67 million VND; VF9 Eco is 2.33 million VND; and finally, VF9 Plus is priced at 2.55 million VND.
The monthly rental prices for 1-12 months are as follows: VinFast VF5 Plus is 14.33 million VND; VF 34 is 18.73 million VND; VF8 Eco is 30.634 million VND; VF8 Plus is 34.17 million VND; VF9 Eco is priced at 46.172 million VND; and VF9 Plus has a monthly rental price of 50.6 million VND.
The 10-day Tet holiday rental package from February 6 to February 15, 2024 has the following prices: VinFast VF5 Plus is 11.96 million VND; VF 34 is 17.33 million VND; VF8 Eco is priced at 19.5 million VND; VF8 Plus is priced at 21.71 million VND; VF9 Eco is priced at 31.46 million VND; and VF9 Plus is priced at 34.43 million VND.
The rental prices for electric cars are considered to be not much different from gasoline cars in the same segment, and in some cases, they are even cheaper by a few hundred thousand to a million VND. The advantage of renting an electric car is that the operating cost is 30% cheaper than gasoline cars, which helps renters reduce expenses and also experience electric cars.
Another benefit of VinFast’s electric car rental program is that it helps regulate rental prices in a more reasonable range during Tet. If gasoline car rental companies do not reconsider their costs and keep the prices high as usual, a large number of customers may turn to electric car rental services.
The inconvenience is that electric car renters need to research the charging stations along their routes, which charging stations can be used and which cannot. For example, if a charging station is currently shown in red status, it means it cannot be used.
In addition, if the temperature of the battery displayed on the car screen is high (above 60 degrees Celsius), customers should not charge the car immediately. They should wait for about 15-30 minutes for the battery temperature to drop below 45 degrees Celsius before charging. In case the remaining battery is very low and it is raining heavily or there is thunder and lightning, the charging should not be done. Importantly, VinFast limits the daily travel distance of electric cars to only 200 km.
