On January 3, 2024, BYD, the Chinese car company, announced that their Song Plus model has reached 800,000 units produced at their assembly plant in Tay An. It is interesting to note that the Song Plus was only launched in 2020, so it took just 3 years to achieve this impressive milestone. The Song Plus is part of the Ocean series.

The BYD Song Plus lineup currently includes plug-in hybrid and pure electric models, offering users a range of choices. He Zhiqi, Senior Vice President and CEO of BYD’s Passenger Vehicle Division, said: “Ocean represents an innovation in BYD’s sales system, focusing on creating a younger sales system.”

What’s so special about the BYD Song Plus – an exciting SUV from the Chinese car company soon to be produced in Vietnam?

Zhang Zhuo, General Manager of BYD’s Ocean Network Business Unit, stated: “Up to now, BYD’s Ocean Network has exceeded 2 million units. In December 2023, BYD’s Ocean Network sold 167,963 units, and the cumulative sales for 2023 exceeded 1.38 million. Among them, the Song Plus (DM, EV) sold 50,725 units in December and the cumulative sales for the year reached 427,071 units.

Looking back 3 years ago, on September 16, 2020, the gasoline-powered Song Plus was officially launched and positioned as a compact SUV. The introduction of this model further meets the consumers’ need for a sense of space.

On March 25, 2021, the Song Plus DM-i, equipped with DM-i super hybrid technology, made its debut in the market. On April 8 of the same year, the electric version of the Song Plus, equipped with BYD Blade Battery, was also approved for testing in the market.



In October 2021, the 100,000th Song Plus rolled off the production line, and by March 2023, the Song Plus reached 500,000 units, taking less than 2 years. This time, the BYD Song Plus series has surpassed the milestone of 800,000 units.

To boost sales, BYD also introduced a special edition version of the Song Plus. Among them, the Song Plus DM-i Champion Edition offers a total of 4 models, with prices ranging from 159,800 to 189,800 yuan. The Song Plus EV Champion Edition also offers a total of 4 models, with prices ranging from 169,800 to 209,800 yuan.

The special edition models feature the new face of the Ocean family, with a more youthful and futuristic overall look. At the same time, the brand logo on the front of the new car has also been changed from “Song” to “BYD”.

In terms of details, the pure electric models mainly use a closed grille design, while the DM-i models feature a dense nanomaterial air intake design to improve cooling in the engine compartment.

In addition, the configurations have been adjusted and upgraded. The plug-in hybrid version has discontinued the 51 km version and added a 150 km version with higher durability. The pure electric version has also added a 605 km version, offering consumers more choices.

In terms of power, the BYD Song Plus DM-i is equipped with 1.5L and 1.5Ti engines, with maximum output of 110 hp and 139 hp respectively, and the pure electric range according to NEDC standards is 51 km/100 km and 110 km. The BYD Song Plus EV has a maximum power of 184 hp and a NEDC range of 505 km.
