Recently, the representative of Daihatsu – a subsidiary of the Toyota Group has announced the suspension of all activities until the end of January 2024.
During this time, Daihatsu will try to address the consequences caused and will work with the Japanese Government to find ways to support affected businesses.
The Daihatsu scandal also involves 58 affiliated distributors with 778 stores selling in Japan. If we include small dealerships distributing Daihatsu cars, this manufacturer has about 30,000 car dealerships in Japan that are affected.
According to information from Daihatsu, there are more than 4,000 businesses around the world using the components, spare parts, and outsourcing services provided by the company. The decision to close until the end of January 2024 not only affects Toyota because Daihatsu produces some models bearing the Toyota brand, but also affects companies that use Daihatsu’s products and services.
Earlier, on December 20th, the company announced that it would temporarily suspend all distribution activities in domestic and international markets. However, later on, Daihatsu resumed distribution to the Indonesian and Malaysian markets after the governments of these two countries confirmed the safety of the company’s car models sold in these Southeast Asian markets.
In addition to the irregularities that were discovered in April and May related to side collision tests and door parts, a recent investigation also revealed many new abnormalities at 174 points in 25 test categories.
Last week, Daihatsu announced that the total number of car models related to the scandal is 64, including 22 models sold under the Toyota brand and some models under the Mazda and Subaru brands.
