Recent reports from Ford indicate that about half of Ford dealerships across the United States have decided not to sell electric vehicles by 2024.
These dealerships will also not bear the cost of electric vehicle training and equipment for the company, regardless of requirements. This means that Americans will have less access to Ford electric vehicles in the future.
At the end of 2022, a Ford report showed that up to 65% of registered Ford electric vehicle dealerships (about 1,920 dealerships) proceeded even though each facility would have to spend $500,000 annually for training and purchasing equipment.
For unknown reasons, after just one year, about 400 dealerships have cancelled their plans to sell electric vehicles. Currently, the company confirms that about 1,550 dealerships are still registered to sell the Model E, only half the total number of Ford dealerships nationwide.
Dealerships that do not register to sell electric vehicles will not be able to sell the Model E as well as not having on-site equipment and will not be trained the same way to meet the service needs of electric vehicles.
The representative of the American car company believes that the decision of dealerships not to sell electric vehicles is normal. Because they are the ones who understand their market well.
Even if only about 50% of dealerships will register to distribute electric vehicles by 2024, there are still up to 84% of the US population living within 20 miles of these dealerships, so it will not greatly affect the overall accessibility of the market.
