According to the latest reports, this car manufacturer is researching a new SUV model with a length of less than 4 meters and a larger 7-seater model, both expected to be launched around mid-2025 and 2027.
Internal sources suggest that the smaller model, codenamed Y43, could appear in 2026 or 2027; it will compete with Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, and the upcoming Kia Clavis. In terms of space, this model will be smaller than the 3,995 mm long Brezza, serving as a new entry-level SUV in the Indian market with an affordable price.
On the other hand, the larger 3-row SUV model, codenamed Y17, is expected to be launched in 2025 with an optional self-charging hybrid powertrain. This vehicle might share a platform with the 4,345 mm long Grand Vitara, although the extended body will make room for an additional row of seats and a larger cargo space.
In a similar context, Hisashi Takeuchi, CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, admitted that the company doesn’t have enough SUVs in its product lineup and there are still “gaps” that can be filled by offering “something at the lowest end and something slightly lower.”
Speaking to Autocar India, Suzuki’s CEO stated, “If customers want larger SUVs, we will cater to their demand. If they want a 3-row vehicle, we will offer them that for Indian customers who currently own imported cars. I think in the small-segment, there will be some SUVs in the future. Our SUV game will become much bigger.”
Suzuki’s current SUV lineup in India includes the Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, and 5-door Jimny. Additionally, there are some urban-inspired models based on crossovers (S-Presso, Ignis) and MPVs (XL6, Invicto), although these models are not officially listed as SUVs. Furthermore, Suzuki has officially confirmed that the production version of the eVX concept will be launched in 2025 with a fully electric powertrain, adding another member to their growing SUV family.
Suzuki hopes that a more diverse product lineup will help the company achieve a 50% market share in the passenger vehicle segment in India, although this seems to be an ambitious target considering the competition. Nevertheless, having more SUVs will surely attract more customers, not only in India but also in other markets around the world.
