The auction results for car license plates on January 5, 2024, recorded hundreds of winning bids, with only a few plates fetching billions of Vietnamese dong. The highest bidding price was for a license plate with the number 51L-222.22, which was sold for 5.36 billion dong between 9:30 and 10:00 AM on the same day.

Specifically, it was the license plate with the number 51L-222.22 under the 51L code in Ho Chi Minh City, and a wealthy individual bid heavily on it, paying 5.36 billion dong.

The price that the wealthy individual paid for the license plate 51L-222.22 was 200 million dong higher than the price of a BMW X7, as well as several hundred million to several billion dong higher than many luxury cars such as the Mercedes-Benz S450, BMW Z4, and Lexus ES.

According to regulations, the person who wins the auction for the car license plate 30K-666.66 has to pay the entire winning bid amount within 15 days from the date of the result announcement. This amount is deducted from the pre-deposited amount (40 million dong), but does not include vehicle registration fees.

Afterwards, within 12 months, the person who wins the auction for the license plate has to register it for their car. If they fail to do so within the deadline, the license plate will be transferred into the registration and vehicle management system, and the winning bidder will not be refunded the paid amount.
