According to a report from Thekoreancarblog, in December 2023, the Kia Sorento outsold the Hyundai Santa Fe with 8,068 units compared to 7,682 units. This marks the fourth consecutive month that the Kia Sorento has held the title of “best-selling SUV” in the South Korean market. Meanwhile, the fifth-generation Santa Fe from Hyundai has completed its third full month of sales with a full lineup of products and is striving to compete for the leading position in the home market with the Kia Sorento.
In the previous month of November 2023, the Kia Sorento sold 9,364 units, followed by the Santa Fe with 8,780 units delivered to South Korean consumers.
Hyundai Motor launched the fifth-generation Santa Fe in August 2023 and initially only sold this SUV model in the domestic market with gasoline engine variants. In the first two months of the new Santa Fe’s release, the hybrid version was not yet available, which prevented the new generation model from creating a real “boom.”
However, starting from October 2023, the new Santa Fe was supplemented with a hybrid variant, resulting in a significant increase in sales volume for this model in South Korea. Specifically, the number of new generation Santa Fe units sold in October reached 7,946, an increase of 3,617 units compared to the previous month of September. Among them, 4,669 units were hybrid models, accounting for 58.7% of the total.
Kia also introduced an upgraded version of the fourth-generation Sorento in August 2023 and began selling it extensively. The Kia Sorento is a highly popular SUV and has been the top-selling model in South Korea for the past 3 consecutive years.
In October, the new Sorento continued to lead in terms of domestic sales with 8,777 units sold, but this was a decrease of over 1,400 units compared to September. Among them, the hybrid version accounted for a significant 65.9% with 5,786 units.
There is hope that the new versions of these two models will soon be available in the Vietnamese market.
