The Hyundai Group has recently signed a strategic partnership agreement with Samsung Electronics to integrate Samsungโ€™s SmartThings smart home management platform into Hyundai and Kia vehicles.

With the SmartThings feature, car owners can remotely control various home appliances through voice commands or touchscreen operations on the infotainment system.

For example, Hyundai/Kia drivers can activate the โ€œHome Modeโ€ when returning from work, turning on the air conditioning, starting the vacuum cleaner, and turning on the lights. Moreover, users can also pre-start the carโ€™s air conditioning while still inside the house. Additionally, electric car owners can use the SmartThings feature to check their homeโ€™s energy usage and adjust the charging time.

Haeyoung Kwon, Vice President of Hyundai and Kiaโ€™s Entertainment and Information Development Center, stated: โ€œThis is an opportunity to make the connection between homes and vehicles more convenient in various fields.โ€ โ€œWe plan to accelerate technological development to continuously make Hyundai and Kia customersโ€™ journeys more meaningful.โ€

After the effective partnership agreement, Hyundai and Kia will activate the SmartThings feature through OTA updates or USB ports on current vehicle models.
