Honda WR-V 2024 outshines Toyota Raize after Daihatsu’s safety scandal

With both the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky being temporarily suspended due to Daihatsu's safety scandal, many customers who were interested in these two models have now turned to the upcoming Honda WR-V. This has resulted in a wait time of up to 1 year to receive the 2024 WR-V.

According to Creative311, customers who pre-order the 2024 Honda WR-V in the Japanese market, expected to be available from March 22, 2024, will have to wait for quite a long time, ranging from 8 months to 1 year before they can receive the car. Creative311 describes this situation as a “perfect storm” for the WR-V.

The good news is that most of the interest in the Honda WR-V comes from customers who had previously considered buying the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky. Dealerships have reported that customers have switched to the Honda WR-V after both rival models were temporarily suspended due to Daihatsu’s safety scandal.

In addition, the competitive price ranges from 2 million yen ($13,240) to just under 2.5 million yen ($16,550), along with many features and amenities including electronic parking brake and full Honda Sensing safety system, are among the factors that make the WR-V extremely popular in Japan.

The 2024 Honda WR-V, which is about to be launched in Japan, is imported from India and has no relation to the second-generation WR-V currently available in Southeast Asian markets including Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. This is clearly demonstrated by its more boxy design and improved ground clearance.

The WR-V measures 4,312 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. Inside the cabin, the WR-V features scratch-resistant hard plastic, glossy black accents, and gray fabric seats. It offers spacious rear passenger space and a large luggage capacity with a flat floor.

An interesting feature is that the car’s infotainment screen placed on the dashboard seems smaller than the 10.25-inch screen of the Elevate model for the Indian market and is paired with a basic analog cluster. Additionally, the car will receive various ADAS features as part of the Honda Sensing package.

The Honda WR-V/Elevate was developed at Honda’s Asia Pacific R&D Center in Thailand and is produced in Rajasthan, India. It shares its platform with the Honda City, along with a single powertrain option – a naturally aspirated i-VTEC 1.5L gasoline engine that produces a maximum output of 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque.
