Rolls-Royce, the luxury car manufacturer, continued to sell record numbers of cars last year, as demand from the wealthy continued to rise despite global economic concerns.
In 2023, Rolls-Royce had a highly successful year with sales reaching 6,032 units, marking a new record in the company’s 120-year history. Importantly, all cars sold included bespoke details, highlighting the importance of exclusivity for Rolls-Royce customers.
The 6,032 Rolls-Royce cars delivered in 2023 were just slightly more than the 11 units sold in 2022, the previous record year for the company. The British luxury carmaker stated that the company’s sales were growing rapidly in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. However, the United States remains the brand’s largest market, followed by China.
The best-selling car in 2023 was the Cullinan, despite an upcoming new upgraded version. Although the company does not provide specific sales figures for each model, it can be predicted that the Rolls-Royce Ghost was the second best-selling model, while the most expensive model, the Phantom, ranked third.
The all-electric luxury coupe model, Spectre, is currently in production and will start reaching customers this year, leading to a sharp increase in Rolls-Royce’s sales. Currently, Spectre pre-orders have extended until 2025. Rolls-Royce has announced the discontinuation of the Wraith coupe and Dawn convertible models, but this has not had a significant impact on sales results, as these two models are usually produced in extremely limited quantities.
Selecting the specifications for a brand new Rolls-Royce completely is a memorable experience, but customers of extremely luxurious brands are quite demanding when it comes to personalization. All Rolls-Royce models sold in 2023 featured bespoke features, leading to new records for the Bespoke division in terms of both quantity and value.
Rolls-Royce stated that the most unique personalized cars came from the Middle East. Not only are there strict aesthetic requirements, but in some cases, customers in this market also demand significant technical improvements. A typical example is the fragrance release mechanism on the headrests of the Phantom Syntopia, originally developed for medical applications.
The Bespoke division of Rolls-Royce had an extremely efficient year in meeting high-demand customer requirements. The standout personalized works in 2023 include the intricate marquetry for The Pearl Cullinan, hand-pierced leather seats for the Black Badge Cullinan Blue Shadow, real-time animation in the Black Badge Ghost Ekleipsis’ Starlight Headliners, and hand-painted artworks on the Phantom Cinque Terre.
Although the personalized features are truly fascinating, the new Coachbuild models are truly the pinnacle of Rolls-Royce’s personalization. In 2023, the company introduced the Droptail roadster with a limited production of only 4 units, with a price of around $25 million (VND 608 billion). Two of them have already been handed over to their owners – specifically, the La Rose Noire and Amethyst versions.
Rolls-Royce has upgraded its production facility in Goodwood to accommodate the manufacturing of electric vehicles. The company also plans to increase investment in the Bespoke and Coachbuild divisions to meet customer demand. According to an independent study by Rolls-Royce, the Goodwood factory has contributed over £4 billion to the UK economy in its 20 years of operation.
