Volkswagen announced that it will integrate the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT into its in-car entertainment system in the future. The goal is to optimize the voice assistant system to enhance the interaction between the driver and the vehicle.
The new language assistant integrated with Volkswagen’s ChatGPT called Cerence Chat Pro, developed through cooperation between VW and technology company Cerence Inc. The German automaker confirmed that it will introduce this new technology at the CES 2024 exhibition in Las Vegas from January 9-12 before implementing it in cars produced from Q2 2024 for the European market.
The first Volkswagen models equipped with Cerence Chat Pro include ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7, Passat, Tiguan, and Golf upgraded versions.
With the integration of ChatGPT, the voice assistant in Volkswagen cars will quickly recognize and respond to various driver requests, from adjusting the temperature in the car to providing directions to the nearest restaurant.
In terms of security, VW ensures that Cerence Chat Pro will not have access to vehicle data. At the same time, command, question, and answer content will be immediately erased to ensure the “highest level of information security” for customers.
Since its widespread use last year, ChatGPT has quickly caught the attention of automakers. In June, Mercedes-Benz also announced plans to use ChatGPT in its vehicles to enhance the functionality of voice assistants. However, the company is currently only in the testing phase.
