In today’s car license plate auction on January 12, 2024, there was an incredibly intense and surprising bidding process for one license plate, which found its owner in less than a third of the time, leaving many baffled.
Specifically, it was during the bidding period from 08:45 to 09:15 for the license plate 30L-088.99. In the first few minutes, the bidding price for this license plate started at 45 million VND, then increased to 75 million VND, 150 million VND, 155 million VND, 160 million VND, and 250 million VND. After that, a customer joined the bidding and made only 2 bids before stopping, with the last bid being 265 million VND (which was 3 times the minimum bidding increment of 5 million VND), and the most shocking bid of 2.7 billion VND.
Then, another person, either accidentally or intentionally, clicked to add an extra 5 million VND, becoming the winner with a final price of 2.705 billion VND. This happened within less than 9 minutes of the auction, with 21 minutes remaining, and no one else bid any further.
Thus, the license plate 30L-088.99 found its highest bidder in less than 9 minutes, with a price of 2.705 billion VND. This was 5 million VND higher than the second highest bidder, but the difference was significant, with 2.4 billion VND compared to the third highest bidder, who bid up to 2.7 billion VND.
According to regulations, the winner of the car license plate auction must pay the full amount within 15 days from the date of the result announcement. This amount is deducted from the previous deposit (40 million VND), but does not include the vehicle registration fee.
Afterwards, within 12 months, the winner of the car license plate auction must register this license plate for their car. If they fail to do so within the given timeframe, this beautiful license plate will be transferred into the registration and vehicle management system, and the winner will not be refunded the amount they paid for winning the auction.
Auctioning car license plates isn’t just about making money.
On the afternoon of October 11th, following discussions, the National Assembly Standing Committee reached an agreement to submit a Draft Resolution on piloting the granting of the right to choose automobile license plates through auctions to the National Assembly, with the aim of granting more authority to the Government.
