The sudden increase in Kia EV9’s sales in December may be due to Kia’s aggressive discount and promotional programs. Despite having many pre-orders before its official launch, the EV9 struggled with continuously declining sales after entering the market in June.
In detail, in June 2023, the number of Kia EV9 units sold reached 1,334, then decreased to 1,251 in July and dropped sharply to 408 units in August. Afterwards, Kia implemented attractive incentive programs and EV9’s sales gradually recovered to around 1,000 units per month but then sharply dropped to 375 units in November.
The discount level for the Kia EV9 is particularly attractive for a domestic model. Depending on the version, the discount for the EV9 can reach up to 20 million won (15,200 USD), along with additional benefits such as electric vehicle subsidies, which could push the potential discount to 26 million won (19,700 USD).
This significant incentive has reduced the starting price of the large-sized SUV, originally starting from 73.37 million won (56,000 USD), to about 50 million won (38,000 USD), quickly attracting considerable attention from consumers. As a result, the Kia EV9 achieved outstanding sales growth of 616% with 2,688 units sold in December compared to November.
