Nearly 2.56 million BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce vehicles were sold in 2023, with more than 376,000 of them being electric vehicles.
At the beginning of 2024, car manufacturers reported global sales figures for 2023. The competition in the luxury segment among BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi continued to be a topic of interest. Similarly to 2022, BMW maintained its sales dominance in 2023.
In particular, the Munich-based brand from Germany – BMW – sold a total of 2,555,341 BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce vehicles in 2023, representing a 6.5% increase compared to 2022. In the month of December alone, BMW’s sales were over 10% higher than the same period last year. Electric vehicles accounted for 367,183 out of the total of 2.56 million vehicles sold, which is an increase of 74.4% compared to the number of electric vehicles sold by BMW in 2022. This means that BMW has achieved its goal of electric vehicles making up 15% of the total global sales volume. The target for 2024 is to reach 20% and further increase to 25% by 2025.
Looking at BMW’s sales figures, it is evident that sales have increased in all regions, but the growth rate in Asia is much slower than in the United States. However, Asia still accounts for the largest market share in BMW’s sales with a total of 1.07 million vehicles, followed by Europe with 942,805 vehicles, and 395,741 vehicles for the United States.
Meanwhile, the figures released by Mercedes-Benz reached 2,043,800 vehicles, including the number of units sold under the Smart brand. Compared to 2022, Mercedes-Benz’s sales increased by 1.5%. However, sales in Q4 decreased by 3%, attributed to supply constraints and model changes.
In contrast, Audi had a successful year with global sales of 1,895,240 vehicles. This helped Audi achieve a growth rate of 17.4% compared to 2022.
The three-way race in the upcoming years is expected to be interesting as all three German luxury brands will introduce a range of new electric vehicle models.
