The all-new BYD pickup truck recently caught attention while undergoing road testing.
According to plans, the Chinese automaker will debut this pickup truck model next month. The vehicle will be available at dealerships in Australia by the end of 2024.
From the leaked images, it can be seen that the truck has a bold and muscular design, with many similarities to the Ford Ranger and F-150 Lightning. This is evident through the C-shaped LED headlights and a prominent grille with the BYD logo, which is now covered.
The BYD electric pickup truck is designed to meet daily commuting and off-road needs. Therefore, it has a high ground clearance and large tires to facilitate navigating steep terrains.
In terms of interior, the leaked images show that the truck is equipped with a touchscreen display of approximately 15 inches in diameter and a digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. Since the screen is placed close to the steering wheel, it is likely to have a vertical screen rotation feature.
The truck’s dashboard area does not have many physical buttons, as most functions will be operated on the screen. It is highly likely that the truck will also be equipped with a heads-up display (HUD) with augmented reality (AR) technology developed in collaboration with Huawei.
According to sources, the new BYD pickup truck will be offered in both pure electric and PHEV versions. The PHEV version will be launched first, while customers interested in the pure electric version will have to wait until 2025 for its release.
There is currently limited information about the engine specifications, but some sources suggest that the PHEV variant will be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and two electric motors, producing a total output of 489 horsepower, which is significantly more powerful than the Ford Ranger Raptor (405 horsepower).
Reports from China indicate that the PHEV variants will have an operating range of 800 – 1,200 km.
Customers can now start making deposits for the PHEV version, and the first batch of vehicles is expected to be delivered to customers in the second half of the year. The new pickup truck is estimated to be priced below $100,000 AUD (approximately 1.6 billion VND).
