C-segment sedan sales in December 2023 (Unit: vehicles)
Mazda3: 923 vehicles
In December, the best-selling model in the C-segment sedan segment was once again the Mazda3, with sales of 923 vehicles, a 28.9% increase. This brings the total number of Mazda3 vehicles sold in Vietnam in 2023 to 6,718, a 31.5% decrease compared to 2022. However, this Japanese model has risen to dominate the C-segment sedan segment, replacing the Kia K3.
Mazda3
Like other Mazda models, the Mazda3 is highly regarded for its exterior design, especially among women. In addition, the comfort and safety features of this C-segment sedan are not inferior to its competitors, while the price ranges from 579 to 729 million VND for 5 variants. With this price range, the Mazda3 is currently one of the most affordable models in the C-segment sedan segment in Vietnam.
Under the hood of the Mazda3 is a 1.5L 4-cylinder gasoline engine with a maximum power of 110 horsepower and a peak torque of 145 Nm. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Hyundai Elantra: 377 vehicles
In December 2023, the Hyundai Elantra saw a growth of 13.9%, with sales of 377 vehicles, securing the 2nd position in the segment and pushing the Kia K3 down to 3rd place. However, the cumulative sales of the Hyundai Elantra in 2023 reached only 2,874 vehicles, lower than its Korean counterpart, the Kia K3. Compared to 2022, the sales of the Hyundai Elantra only decreased slightly by 1.6%, demonstrating the stability of this model.
Hyundai Elantra
Compared to the Kia K3 and Mazda3, the Hyundai Elantra is slightly higher in price, ranging from 599 to 799 million VND for 4 variants. However, the Hyundai Elantra offers 3 engine options.
The first option is the 1.6L Gamma II gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 128 horsepower and a peak torque of 155 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. The second option is the 2.0L Nu engine, with a maximum power of 159 horsepower and a peak torque of 193 Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Finally, the N-Line variant features a turbocharged 1.6L engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and delivering a maximum power of 204 horsepower and a torque of 265 Nm.
In addition, the Hyundai Elantra is equipped with notable features such as LED headlights, hands-free smart trunk, automatic windshield wipers, sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, 10-way power-adjustable leather seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone independent automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, and 6 speakers.
Kia K3: 369 vehicles
2023 was not a successful year for the Kia K3. In the last month of the year, the Kia K3 achieved sales of 369 vehicles, an increase of 8.2%, and ranked 3rd in the C-segment sedan segment.
The cumulative sales of the Kia K3 in 2023 reached only 3,205 vehicles, ranking 2nd in the segment and decreasing by 71.8% compared to 2022. This decline resulted in the Kia K3 losing its crown to the Mazda3.
Kia K3
Like the Mazda3, the Kia K3 has a relatively affordable price, ranging from 549 to 739 million VND for 5 variants. However, one weakness of this Korean model is the lack of active safety features such as ADAS compared to its competitors.
Not inferior to its sibling, the Hyundai Elantra, the Kia K3 also offers 3 engine options. The first is a 1.6L gasoline engine with a maximum power of 126 horsepower and a peak torque of 155 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the variant. The second is a 2.0L engine with a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a peak torque of 192 Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The third option is the turbocharged 1.6L engine in the N-Line variant, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and delivering a maximum power of 201 horsepower and a torque of 265 Nm.
Honda Civic: 142 vehicles
The Honda Civic maintained its 4th position in the C-segment sedan segment with sales of 142 vehicles, an increase of 36.5%. This was partly due to the incentive program for registration fees that Honda applied to the Civic in the past month.
Overall, a total of 1,222 Honda Civic vehicles were sold in Vietnam in 2023, a 36.5% decrease compared to 2022. This result keeps the Honda Civic in the last position in the segment, similar to 2022.
Honda Civic
The Honda Civic is highly regarded for its attractive design, abundant comfort and safety features, but it is relatively expensive in the segment, ranging from 730 to 870 million VND for 3 variants. It features leather upholstery, power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and the Honda Sensing package, which includes active safety features such as ADAS.
The engine of the Honda Civic is a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine, with a maximum power of 178 horsepower and a peak torque of 240 Nm. It is paired with a CVT automatic transmission and a front-wheel drive system.
Toyota Corolla Altis: 114 vehicles
Similar to November 2023, in the last month of 2023, the Toyota Corolla Altis remained at the bottom position with sales of 114 vehicles, a growth of 42.5%. Therefore, this model has the highest growth rate in the C-segment sedan segment in the past month.
The cumulative sales of the Toyota Corolla Altis in 2023 reached 1,430 vehicles, ranking 4th in the segment, just above the Honda Civic. Compared to 2022, the sales of the Toyota Corolla Altis decreased by 62.9%.
Toyota Corolla Altis
In early October 2023, the Toyota Corolla Altis received a minor upgrade. In the new version, the Toyota Corolla Altis is equipped with additional features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as standard, auto-adjusting rearview mirror when reversing, blind-spot monitoring system (BSM), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), and a 360-degree camera.
Unfortunately, the engine of the car remains unchanged, including 2 options. The first is a 1.8L gasoline engine, producing a maximum power of 138 horsepower and a peak torque of 172 Nm. The second option is the hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 1.8L gasoline engine and an electric motor, with a total power output of 122 horsepower. Both options come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive.
The price of the Toyota Corolla Altis ranges from 725 to 870 million VND, on par with the Honda Civic.
