A-segment Car Sales in December 2023 (in units)

Hyundai Grand i10: 1,135 cars

In recent times, the Hyundai Grand i10 has always been the top choice for first-time car buyers or those on tight budgets. In December 2023, the model sold 1,135 cars, a 50.9% increase compared to the previous month. With this result, the Hyundai Grand i10 became the best-selling A-segment car in the Vietnamese market.

For the whole year of 2023, the Hyundai Grand i10 achieved sales of 7,944 cars, continuing to lead the A-segment market. Compared to 2022, the sales of this Korean model decreased by 26.1% due to the overall market condition. Additionally, the Grand i10 is the third best-selling Hyundai model in Vietnam, following the Accent and Creta.

Hyundai Grand i10

There are several factors that make Vietnamese customers choose the Hyundai Grand i10, such as its stylish design, sufficient features, and affordable price range of 360 – 455 million VND for 6 variants. This model has notable features such as LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, LED taillights, 14 – 15-inch wheels, electrically adjustable/folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, analog instrument cluster with a 5.3-inch TFT multi-information display, 8-inch infotainment screen, leather seats, 4-speaker audio system, and Cruise Control.

Under the hood of the Hyundai Grand i10 is the 1.2L MPI Kappa gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 83 horsepower and a maximum torque of 114 Nm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission, depending on the variant.

Toyota Wigo: 291 cars

Compared to the rival Hyundai Grand i10, the Toyota Wigo had a modest growth rate of 21.25% with 291 cars sold. Therefore, the Toyota Wigo continued to hold the second position in the A-segment car segment in Vietnam in December 2023.

Even the year-to-date sales result of Toyota Wigo, totaling 1,748 cars, ranked second in the segment. However, it should be noted that this is the sales result achieved by the Japanese model in just over 6 months of 2023.

Toyota Wigo

Unlike the other two competitors in the same segment, the Toyota Wigo is a fully imported car from Indonesia instead of being assembled domestically. Therefore, in 2023, this model did not enjoy the 50% reduction in registration fees offered by the Vietnamese government.

Returning to the Vietnamese market in June 2023, the Toyota Wigo has a reasonable price range from 360 – 405 million VND. Besides the price and brand factor, the Toyota Wigo also stands out with rare safety features in the segment such as Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

The powertrain of the Toyota Wigo is the new 1.2L petrol engine, combined with a 5-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission (D-CVT). This engine delivers a maximum output of 87 horsepower and a maximum torque of 113 Nm.

Kia Morning: 100 cars

Kia Morning was the only model in the segment that experienced a decline in sales in December 2023. Specifically, Kia sold 100 Morning cars in Vietnam, a decrease of 31.5%.

In total, throughout 2023, Vietnamese customers bought 1,055 Kia Morning cars, even fewer than the sales of Toyota Wigo despite the longer selling period of almost 6 months. Compared to 2022, the sales of this Korean model dropped by 73.4%. This indicates that the Kia Morning is experiencing a severe decline, losing its appeal to domestic consumers.

Kia Morning

Kia Morning currently has 6 variants and a price range from 349 – 424 million VND, cheaper than the Hyundai Grand i10. However, the Kia Morning has fewer notable features compared to its “compatriots,” with only halogen headlights and lacking a cruise control system.

In addition, this Korean model is equipped with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, electrically adjustable/folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, 14 – 15-inch wheels, an analog instrument cluster with a multi-information display, an 8-inch infotainment screen, 4 – 6-speaker audio system, and automatic air conditioning.

Powering the Kia Morning is the 1.25L Kappa gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 83 horsepower and a maximum torque of 120 Nm, paired with a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission.
