During his state visit to Vietnam on January 13, 2024, Indonesian President Joko Widodo expressed support for VinFast’s investment plan in Indonesia.
Welcoming Indonesian President, Chairman of Vingroup Corporation and Global CEO of VinFast, Pham Nhat Vuong, personally drove President Joko Widodo to visit the electric car production workshop at the Complex.
After visiting the factory and learning about VinFast’s electric car models, the Indonesian President expressed his delight at visiting the factory and stated that he will create conditions for VinFast to complete the investment procedures for production and business in the Indonesian market.
After being introduced to VinFast’s electric car fleet, President Jokowi evaluated VinFast as one of the fastest-growing automakers. “Electric cars are an industry that is developing rapidly, and I hope VinFast will invest in Indonesia as soon as possible,” said President Jokowi.
President Jokowi hopes that VinFast’s presence in Indonesia will further boost the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country and potentially collaborate with the country’s water battery industry in the future.
According to the plan, VinFast will invest a minimum of $1.2 billion in Indonesia in the long term. In addition to distributing imported cars from Vietnam in the initial phase, VinFast plans to spend $200 million to build an electric car manufacturing facility with an expected production capacity of 30,000-50,000 cars per year in Indonesia.
