Suzuki seems to be less interested in developing electric cars. Suzuki is satisfied being a major car brand in the Indian market with its lineup of affordable cars.

However, times are changing, and now India is looking to boost the sales of electric cars. Due to this, the Japanese automaker once again has to join the competition, investing a large amount of money in upgrading its production factory as well as developing a pure electric platform.

Previously, Suzuki had attempted to convert its gasoline cars into electric cars and tested it on the Wagon R EV model. However, the high cost led Suzuki to abandon this plan.

Currently, the company is working on developing a pure electric platform called K-EV specifically for small and affordable electric cars.

In addition, Suzuki is also collaborating with Toyota to develop another platform for a mid-size electric SUV – the eVX, which is expected to start production this year.

Having two platform options in different segments will help Suzuki diversify its product lineup and cater to the varying needs of customers.

Recently, the Japanese automaker has been researching and collaborating with Denso and Toshiba to produce its own electric batteries. In the meantime, the Suzuki eVX model will use BYD’s batteries.

According to the plan, Suzuki will launch at least 6 electric car models in this decade. The models will cover the hatchback, MPV, and SUV segments.
