Honda showcased many impressive car models at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024. One of them caught the attention of many Japanese users because it will soon be developed into a commercial version.
The 2024 Honda Civic RS Prototype is a preview of the sportier version of the Civic with a bold design and a manual transmission. This version is designed to bridge the gap between the regular Civic models and the Civic Type R.
The Civic RS is entirely painted in black, enhancing its aggressive and attractive appearance. The highlight of the exterior is the redesigned front bumper with sleeker surfaces and slimmer air vents on both sides. Furthermore, Honda added red RS badges on both ends of the car, contrasting the black paint.
These exterior design tweaks make the Civic RS resemble a more subtle version of the Type R, although the rest of the body and the alloy wheels are carried over from the standard Civic Hatchback.
The Honda Civic is already available with a 6-speed manual transmission in the US market, but buyers in Japan are only offered a CVT automatic transmission. This will change in the autumn of 2024 when the Civic RS equipped with a manual transmission will be introduced to the Japanese market.
Currently, Honda has not announced the powertrain of the 2024 Civic RS, but it is highly likely that the car will be equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine. More importantly, Honda promises to make “further improvements to deliver a more exciting driving experience,” hinting at modifications to the chassis to match its sportier appearance.
