At the recent Singapore Auto Show 2024, Lexus introduced the small-sized CUV LBX to Southeast Asian users.
Introduced globally since June 2023, the Lexus LBX is developed based on the TNGA-B platform of Toyota, similar to the Yaris Cross sold in some markets such as Europe, Japan, and Singapore. Therefore, this model is also considered as the luxury version of the Toyota Yaris Cross.
Lexus LBX 2024 has dimensions of 4,190 x 1,825 x 1,560 (mm) for length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. With these dimensions, the car is positioned between the A and B segment CUVs.
The LBX has a design that is quite similar to the new generation of Lexus RX. This is clearly shown in the front area of the car with its honeycomb grille, accompanied by a hexagonal-shaped grille.
On both sides of the grille are compact headlight clusters, combined with LED daytime running lights in the shape of a “L” – a characteristic of the Lexus brand. The two headlight clusters are connected to each other by a glossy black strip, creating a border separating the hood and the grille.
The side of the car is shaped by strong cutting lines, expanding at the wheel arches and narrowing in the center, creating a widebody structure. The size of the wheels ranges from 17 to 18 inches with various pattern options.
At the rear of the Lexus LBX, there is a LED taillight cluster in the shape of an “L”, connected to each other to form a strip spanning the width of the trunk. Below this strip of lights is a raised “Lexus” emblem instead of the brand logo. Similarly to the front bumper, the rear bumper of the car also has vertical decorative slots, adorned with a chrome strip in the shape of an “L”.
Inside the cabin of the Lexus LBX 2024 stands out with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9.8-inch infotainment screen. The HUD display is optional. Along with that, this small-sized CUV is equipped with a Mark Levinson 13-speaker audio system, along with a subwoofer. The Lexus LBX 2024 has a luggage capacity of 332 liters for the front-wheel-drive version, and slightly lower for the AWD version (due to the addition of a rear electric motor).
Providing power for the Lexus LBX in the Southeast Asian market is still a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder gasoline engine, with a combined output of 134 horsepower and a maximum torque of 185 Nm. It is accompanied by a continuously variable CVT transmission and the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. With the power from the engine, this CUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and has a maximum towing capacity of 750 kg.
All versions of the Lexus LBX 2024 have MacPherson front struts, while the rear uses torsion beam suspension for the FWD models and double wishbone suspension for the AWD models. Lexus has said that the AWD version is also supplemented with an additional electric motor placed at the rear axle. However, the power output of this version has not been announced yet.
In terms of safety equipment, the car is equipped with a range of driving assist features such as emergency braking, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, and Lexus Safety System+ driver assistance system.
