According to some sources, Toyota and Daihatsu are researching and developing new engines for the Vios and its original versions to serve the Southeast Asian market.

Providing power for the Toyota Vios in recent years has been the naturally aspirated 1.3L and 1.5L engines. However, now that the car has been switched to the new DNGA platform, engine upgrades are necessary.

It is highly likely that this B-segment sedan will be equipped with a 1.0L turbocharged direct fuel injection engine.

The rumored specifications of the new engine are 110 horsepower and 200 Nm, a significant increase compared to the previous 1.5L engine’s figures of 106/138 units. The power of this engine may even exceed that of its rivals, the Hyundai Accent (100 horsepower) and Nissan Almera (98 horsepower).

Currently, the Japanese carmaker has not confirmed the information.

The latest generation of the Toyota Vios was introduced in 2022. Therefore, users may have to wait at least 1-2 years before a lifecycle upgrade version is available. Only then will the information be confirmed.
