Due to the economic downturn, the car market in Vietnam was quite sluggish in 2023. However, the SUV segment in Vietnam remained quite vibrant with some popular names being the top choices. Here, we invite you to check out the 5 best-selling SUVs in Vietnam in 2023.

Mazda CX-5

In 2023, Vietnamese people bought a total of 16,808 Mazda CX-5s, a 32.3% increase compared to 2022, despite the impact of the economic downturn. With these results, the Mazda CX-5 has become the best-selling SUV in Vietnam in 2023. In 2022, this position belonged to the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Mazda CX-5

It can be said that the Mazda CX-5 has become the “national car” of the SUV segment in Vietnam. Its success is mainly due to its excellent price for a C-segment SUV from Japan.

In July 2023, the Mazda CX-5 was upgraded in the mid-cycle with a starting price of only 749 million VND. Thanks to that, the Mazda CX-5 has become one of the cheapest C-segment SUVs in the Vietnamese market. Currently, the selling price of the Mazda CX-5 has slightly increased, ranging from 759 to 999 million VND.

In addition, the Mazda CX-5 has other competitive advantages such as beautiful exterior design that matches the taste of Vietnamese people, as well as convenience and safety features that are not inferior to its competitors. Being assembled domestically, the Mazda CX-5 enjoyed a 50% reduction in registration fees in the second half of 2023, making this SUV even more attractive.

Kia Sonet

The second best-selling SUV in Vietnam in 2023 is the Kia Sonet, with a total sales of 11,366 units, a 20.3% growth compared to 2022. Despite the declining market in the past year, this A-segment SUV still achieved positive growth with a relatively high rate.

Kia Sonet

With the above sales figures, the Kia Sonet naturally topped the A-segment SUV and surpassed its competitors such as the Toyota Raize and Hyundai Venue. Furthermore, this model also made it into the top 10 best-selling cars in the entire market in 2023, ranking 6th. In addition, the Sonet is also the best-selling Kia model in the Vietnamese market in the past year.

In the Vietnamese market, Korean cars are often preferred for their youthful and fashionable design, diverse equipment, and attractive prices. The Kia Sonet is a typical example of these appealing factors.

With prices ranging from 519 to 574 million VND for 3 variants, the Kia Sonet offers features such as full LED headlights with automatic on/off, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, automatic climate control with rear-seat vents, a sunroof, wireless phone charging, and a 6-speaker audio system.

For first-time buyers or those with a limited budget, the Kia Sonet is one of the most attractive choices on the market.

Hyundai Creta

Not only the best-selling SUV in its segment, the Hyundai Creta is also one of the most popular SUVs on the market in 2023 with a total sales of 10,719 units. However, unlike the Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sonet, the sales of Hyundai Creta decreased by 11.3% compared to 2022.

Hyundai Creta

Despite the decline compared to 2022, the Hyundai Creta still managed to surpass the Toyota Corolla Cross with a difference of only 234 units. In addition, the Creta is the second best-selling Hyundai model in Vietnam, following the Accent.

Like the Kia Sonet, the Hyundai Creta possesses all the strengths of Korean cars. In addition to its reasonable price, ranging from 640 to 740 million VND, this B-segment SUV enjoys a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled vehicles.

The Hyundai Creta features full LED lighting, 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels with two-tone scratch, leather seats, a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bose audio system, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a SmartSense active safety system with functions such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Toyota Corolla Cross

In 2022, the Toyota Corolla Cross was the best-selling SUV in the Vietnamese market with sales of up to 21,473 units. In the first half of 2023, this B-segment SUV still performed well with a total sales of 6,341 units. However, in the second half of last year, the Toyota Corolla Cross experienced a continuous decline in sales and consistently fell behind its Korean competitors, the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

Toyota Corolla Cross

By the end of 2023, the Toyota Corolla Cross reached a total sales of 10,485 units, a 51.1% decrease compared to 2022. Not only did it lose its position as the best-selling SUV to the Mazda CX-5, but it also had to give up its leading position in the B-segment SUV to the Hyundai Creta.

As a completely imported model from Thailand, the Toyota Corolla Cross does not enjoy the 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled vehicles like many other competitors in the same segment. The emergence of the Toyota Yaris Cross with a lower price also puts pressure on the Corolla Cross.

The Toyota Corolla Cross currently has prices ranging from 760 to 955 million VND. Compared to its competitors in the B-segment SUV, this model has a relatively high price. This may be one of the reasons why the car has gradually lost its appeal in difficult economic times.

Ford Everest

By the end of 2023, the Ford Everest achieved a total sales of 9,960 units, a 42.7% increase compared to 2022. Therefore, despite the economic downturn and not being eligible for the 50% reduction in registration fees, this American D-segment SUV still had a strong performance in the past year.

Ford Everest

With these results, the Ford Everest is the best-selling D-segment SUV in the market. If we consider only the SUVs, the Ford Everest ranks 5th. With the Ford brand, this is the second best-selling model after the Ranger.

The achievements of the Ford Everest are quite impressive because it is not a cheap car with prices ranging from 1,099 to 1,499 billion VND. Although the car has official promotions, the values are only about a few tens of million VND, quite modest compared to many other models on the market.

The strength of the Ford Everest lies in its modern, rugged, yet fashionable design. In addition, it offers spacious 7-seater interiors and complete convenience and safety features.
