The Porsche 911 is one of the legendary sports car models in the world, having existed for six decades. In 2024, it will celebrate its 60th birthday, and there will be many commemorative activities taking place worldwide.
In Vietnam, besides Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu with his collection of over 20 Porsche 911s, there are also a few other enthusiasts who own two or more cars. One such person is businessman N.H.A. from Hai Phong city, who is currently living and working in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.
Last year, this player caught attention as the first person in Vietnam to receive the limited edition Porsche 911 Dakar, a production run of 2,500 units worldwide, with only 4 units distributed in our country. Many people were curious to know which Porsche 911 models this businessman had previously owned to receive such special treatment.
The answer came on a beautiful day, when this businessman brought out his two Porsche 911 sports cars to sunbathe together. Besides the famous Porsche 911 Dakar that completed a nearly 35,000 km journey from Saigon to the Gobi Desert in 3 months, the owner also owned the first Porsche 911 Carrera GTS to arrive in Vietnam 7 years ago.
Interestingly, not only was the Porsche 911 Dakar’s wheels repainted in gold and red, the older generation Porsche 911 Carrera GTS owned by the Hai Phong car enthusiast also had its wheels repainted from black to shiny gold, matching the car’s original “zin” color. Just the pair of Porsche 911s cost the owner more than 28 billion VND.
But the story doesn’t end there. The Hai Phong businessman is also the owner of the first Porsche 911 Turbo S 991 to arrive in Vietnam, and he had the opportunity to drive from Saigon to Thailand before selling the car to its current owner, Mr. Dang Le Nguyen Vu.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S with the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS
The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing a maximum power of 430 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 550 Nm. The car features a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 310 km/h. In addition to the automatic transmission, the 911 Carrera GTS is also equipped with a manual transmission.
As for the Porsche 911 Dakar, Mr. Hoang Anh shared that it was only available in the GT Silver Metallic color, as no other color in the Dakar range matched this body color better. The 911 Dakar itself had a striking white and Enzian Blue exterior, but Mr. Hoang Anh didn’t feel the vibes from the blue color. In terms of customization options, Mr. Hoang Anh chose to add a Rally Sport rollover protection frame, a unique roof rack with accessories, and personalized door sills with the message “Limitless Drive.”
Furthermore, the owner’s signature can be found on the door sills, showcasing his unique, exclusive driving style, even though this limited edition Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 is parked next to two other cars that have already been delivered to adventurous and savvy customers in Vietnam. Lastly, the vehicle’s order number is “1904,” coinciding with Mr. Hoang Anh’s birth date. Choosing a birth date for a Porsche 911 in Vietnam is not uncommon. Prior to this, Cuong “Dola” had ordered his own Porsche 911 Sport Classic 2023, one of only 1,250 units worldwide, with the sequence number “1202” and the number 82 on the door, representing his birth date.
The “heart” of the first Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 to arrive in Vietnam is a 6-cylinder horizontally opposed twin-turbocharged petrol engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters, producing a maximum power of 473 horsepower and a peak torque of 570 Nm. This engine is paired with an 8-speed PDK automatic transmission, enabling the sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed limited to 240 km/h.
An interesting feature of the off-road Porsche 911 Dakar 2023 is that the ground clearance can be raised up to 80 mm, similar to SUVs. However, at speeds above 170 km/h, the vehicle’s height automatically lowers, transforming it into a sports car. Additionally, the car has a full-time four-wheel drive system and rear-wheel steering.
