According to the sales report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and TC Motor, the list of the 10 slowest-selling products in Vietnam in 2023 is mainly made up of familiar names but still has surprising factors. Among them, there are a total of 9 models from Japanese brands, while the remaining position belongs to an American car and all are completely imported cars.

At the top of the list is the Honda Civic Type R with 19 cars delivered throughout the year 2023. This sales figure is not due to the product being “picky” but rather because the Honda Civic Type R is a high-performance sports car, completely imported from Japan and only sold in limited quantities, based on pre-orders.

Not only the Honda Civic Type R, but the Toyota Alphard and Land Cruiser Prado also appear on the list, and both are not meant for regular consumers. Among them, the Toyota Alphard has a price of over 4 billion VND, targeting customers such as businesses, hotels, and resorts that need a vehicle for transporting important individuals.

The 2nd position belongs to the Suzuki Ciaz with a total of 37 units sold, ranking at the bottom of the B-segment sedan. In 2023, this model was frequently discounted but could not escape the list of slow-selling cars.

Alongside the Ciaz, another Suzuki product also made it to the list, which is the Swift, ranking 10th with 401 units sold. However, the Swift is not the slowest-selling car in the B-segment hatchback as that title belongs to the Toyota Yaris. The Toyota Yaris itself ranks at 5th place on the list of the 10 slowest-selling cars in Vietnam in 2023, with a cumulative sales figure of 134 units.

In addition to the Alphard, Land Cruiser Prado, and Yaris, another Toyota model appears on the list, which is the Hilux. This pickup truck returned to Vietnam in late March 2023 but consistently had the lowest sales figure in its segment due to its high price without matching features, and even falling behind the standard version of the Ford Ranger.

At the 2nd and 8th positions are the Honda Accord and Isuzu mu-X. These are also two familiar names that frequently appear on the list of slow-selling cars in Vietnam. While the Honda Accord sells slowly due to its high price and limited variants, the Isuzu mu-X is less attractive to customers due to its niche design.

Most notably on the list of the 10 slowest-selling cars in Vietnam in 2023 is the Ford Explorer. This is the first time this model has made it into the list of the slowest-selling cars of the year. Besides the economic downturn as a contributing factor, the appearance of the Hyundai Palisade with its “dominating” price range in the E-SUV segment, ranging from 1.469-1.589 billion VND, has also affected the sales of the Explorer.
