Honda, an automobile company, had a successful year in the US market in 2023. Specifically, Americans purchased a total of 1,308,166 Honda and Acura cars, an increase of 33% compared to 2022. This achievement was due to the stable production process and the absence of challenges in import and export caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

With these results, Honda ranked as the 6th largest car manufacturer in the US market. The Honda CR-V, known as the “golden egg-laying hen,” contributed significantly to this success with sales of 361,457 units, a growth of 51.8%. The CR-V is the best-selling Honda model in the US and ranks 6th in the overall market.

Within the compact SUV segment, the Honda CR-V is the second best-selling model, just behind the Toyota RAV4. However, in the hybrid segment, the Honda CR-V is the leader. In 2023, Honda sold 197,317 units of the CR-V Hybrid in the US. The Honda CR-V Hybrid surpassed its rival, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, and its sibling, the Honda Accord Hybrid.

According to recent research in the US market, consumers are shifting from traditional gasoline and diesel vehicles to hybrid cars instead of electric vehicles. Data from S&P Global Mobility shows that from January to October 2023, 8.3% of households who owned gasoline cars decided to buy hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicles when purchasing a new car. In October 2023, this figure reached a peak of 9.9%, while the corresponding figure for households switching from gasoline cars to electric cars during the same period was only 5.7%.

Several factors contribute to this consumer trend in the US. The main reason is the monthly cost. Data from S&P Global Mobility and Transunion shows that the average monthly cost for new gasoline cars in the US is $675, while for hybrid cars, it is $670. The corresponding figures for plug-in hybrid cars and electric cars are $798 and $828, respectively.

Honda CR-V 2024 is also available in hybrid versions in Vietnam, known as e:HEV RS. It is the first and only hybrid model of Honda in the Vietnamese market. In the compact SUV segment, the Honda CR-V is one of the rare hybrid models, along with the Haval H6.
