Ending the year 2023, BMW has outperformed all other luxury car manufacturers with impressive sales results, marking a new record-breaking year.
According to a report by Automobile News, throughout the year 2023, the BMW brand sold a total of 2,253,835 cars. This figure sets a new milestone for the German automaker, with sales increasing by 7% compared to the previous year.
Ranking second in the luxury car sales race is Mercedes-Benz with accumulated sales in 2023 reaching 2,043,800 cars, almost equivalent to 2022.
Notably, similar to BMW, Mercedes has seen a significant increase in zero-emission car sales, reaching 222,600 units and marking a significant 73% increase compared to the previous year as both brands prioritize selling electric vehicles at different price points. Audi retains its third position with a noteworthy growth rate of 18%, reaching a total of 1,895,240 cars sold.
In fourth position, Tesla Inc, the US electric vehicle manufacturer, achieved a significant positive growth rate of 38% compared to the same period last year, with a total sales volume of 1,808,581 electric cars. Although sales figures for Lexus and Volvo in 2023 have not yet been announced, it is highly likely that these two automakers will hold the fifth and sixth positions respectively.
BMW’s popular electric vehicle lineup includes the fully electric i7 and the XM Label Red hybrid, which replaces the M1 and contributes 14% to the total sales. In 2023, 330,956 BMW electric cars were sold, accounting for 14% of the total sales volume and marking a significant 92% increase compared to the same period last year.
MINI and Rolls-Royce, both subsidiaries of BMW, contributed an additional 301,506 cars to the sales volume. Overall, the BMW Group sold a total of 2,555,341 cars in 2023, a significant increase of 6.5% compared to 2022.
