From March 2023, Ford launched the Explorer electric SUV. This is also the first model of the American car manufacturer to use the MEB architecture of the Volkswagen Group, as part of the collaboration between Ford and VW.
According to the plan, this model will only be available in Europe. However, in early 2024, the car was unexpectedly spotted in Malaysia. This information made many people skeptical about the possibility of the Ford Explorer EV being introduced in the Southeast Asian market.
In fact, the Ford Explorer EV captured in Malaysia is undergoing a world tour called “Charge Around the Globe”. The text on the body of the car proves this.
The driver of this Ford Explorer EV is Alexis Alford – a Guinness World Record holder who holds the record for traveling through every country in the world at the age of 21.
Accordingly, Alexis Alford started his world tour from Nice, France in September 2023. This record-breaking woman expects to travel with her Explorer EV through 6 continents and more than 30 countries. If she achieves this goal, she will be the first person to travel around the world by electric car.
On January 5, 2024, Alexis Alford updated the information on her social media showing that she has traveled 14,890 km and wandered for 75 days.
It is known that the Ford Explorer EV driven by this record-breaking woman is a production-ready version. The car is accompanied by some other production-ready cars in the convoy, making it easy to change components in case of unfortunate incidents.
Currently, Ford has not officially announced the technical specifications of the Explorer EV. However, according to many speculations, the Ford Explorer EV will have 3 options: a single motor with 168 horsepower and a range of 351 km; a single motor with 228 horsepower and a range of 539 km; a dual motor with 335 horsepower and a range of 491 km.
According to the plan, in June 2024, Ford will put the mass production of the electric Explorer (EV) into operation. The first cars are expected to be delivered to customers around August.Â
