After receiving a report from the Japanese car manufacturer on safety test fraud in December 2023, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has issued an order to suspend the transportation of Daihatsu vehicles – a global subsidiary of Toyota – until they are confirmed to comply with regulations. Daihatsu has suspended all operations at its factories in Japan.

The inspections conducted by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism have uncovered abnormalities in 46 vehicle models. The Ministry has conducted tests on 45 vehicle models, excluding one model that is still under development.

In a statement issued on January 19, 2024, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism cleared 5 vehicle models produced by Daihatsu, including Daihatsu Gran Max, Toyota Town Ace Van, Mazda Bongo van, Toyota ProBox, and Mazda Familia Van, stating that these vehicle models meet the standards set by the Ministry.

The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated that they will continue to test and announce the results on the remaining vehicle models. As for Daihatsu, the company announced that they will begin preparations for the continued production of these 5 vehicle models, but did not disclose a specific timeline.
