A representative of Mazda has stated that the Mazda6 will continue to be produced and distributed in Vietnam as well as in several other countries, despite the model being discontinued in its home market.
Mazda recently announced the discontinuation of the Mazda6 sedan in the Japanese market starting from April 2024. Previously, this mid-size sedan had also ceased distribution in North America in 2021 and the UK last year. The continuous discontinuation of the Mazda6 in important markets in recent times has raised speculation that the model will be phased out globally.
However, in an interview with Car Expert, a Mazda executive confirmed that the model will continue to be produced in Japan and Vietnam for distribution in many markets. “We will continue to produce the Mazda6 in Japan for Australia and several other markets. This also does not change the assembly and sales of the car in Vietnam” – the representative of the company stated.
This move by Mazda is similar to the case of the Toyota Camry. This mid-size sedan was discontinued in its home country of Japan last year but continues to be produced for other markets.
Therefore, customers in Vietnam, Australia, and several other markets can rest assured that the Mazda6 will continue to be available for sale, at least until the end of its current life cycle. The third-generation Mazda6 has been on the market for 12 years, twice the lifespan of an average mainstream car. However, until now, the Japanese automaker has not provided any official information regarding the next-generation Mazda6.
Car Expert, citing a source in Japan, reports that the fourth-generation Mazda6 will become a rear-wheel-drive sedan and be developed based on the Large Platform chassis of the CX-60 and CX-90 models. If this information proves true, the Mazda6 will not be launched before 2025 as the company is prioritizing the development of new SUV models in the face of a significant decline in sales of large sedans worldwide.
