VinFast is very hopeful that its small VF 3 model, which the company unveiled at CES this month, will help the Vietnamese brand establish its position in the US market.
Initially, VinFast had no intention of selling the VF 3 in North America. In an interview with Yahoo! Finance at CES 2024, VinFast Chairman of the Board Le Thi Thu Thuy said, “All market research shows that American consumers prefer large models,” which is why the company first introduced the VF 8 model in the US.
However, VinFast’s dealers in the US believe that the VF 3 has the potential to sell well in this market. After the small SUV was displayed at dealerships in September, the Vietnamese automaker decided to develop the VF 3 for the US market.
The main reason why dealers trust that the VF 3 will sell well in the US is its attractive price. VinFast has suggested that it could be sold in the US for under $20,000, before considering a tax incentive of up to $7,500. This could be the cheapest electric car available in the US.
VinFast’s leaders have announced that the VF 3 will be launched in the US in early 2025, along with a range of larger models, potentially including the production version of the VF Wild pickup truck model, which was also introduced at CES.

The VF 3 belongs to the mini car segment. The car has a total length of about 3,114 mm, with a design of 2 side doors, 1 rear trunk door, and enough interior space for 5 people. The compact body is made robust thanks to the equipped 16-inch alloy wheels, creating a large ground clearance and facilitating the vehicle’s movement on various terrains.
