The Porsche Macan EV 2024 is the first electric SUV from the German brand, built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) framework, shared with the Audi Q6 e-Tron.
Porsche has officially launched its first fully electric SUV – the Macan EV 2024. The Macan EV is the first model in the brand’s lineup to undergo the transition from internal combustion engines to pure electric.
The Macan EV comes in 2 versions: the Macan 4 with a starting price of $78,800 (~ ₫1.93 billion), excluding a $1,650 (~ ₫40 million) transportation fee, and the Macan Turbo with a starting price of $105,300 (~ ₫2.6 billion), also excluding a transportation fee.
In terms of design, the Macan EV 2024 looks very similar to the other models in the Porsche family. However, the vehicle uses the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) framework from Porsche, which is shared with the Audi Q6 e-Tron and has similar dimensions, but with upgrades.
In terms of dimensions, the Porsche Macan EV 2024 is 58 mm longer, 76.2 mm taller, and 224 mm wider than the internal combustion engine version.
The Porsche Macan EV 2024 features a coupe-like sloping roofline that enhances aerodynamics – with a retractable spoiler that can be deployed at the rear door and opened at high speeds. The large clamshell hood has been replaced by a more conventional one with sealed shutlines running from the headlamp peak to the base of the windscreen pillar, instead of along the edge of the front wing.
The front of the vehicle does not have a traditional grille. The notable detail is the new rectangular-shaped headlights with matrix LED technology. The car is equipped with 22-inch wheels.
At the rear, the Porsche Macan EV 2024 is equipped with a full-width taillight strip. The rear bumper is covered in black plastic, simulating a diffuser.
The new Macan EV has a more spacious interior, providing more comfortable seating for passengers. In addition, the cargo space has also been increased compared to the internal combustion engine version.
Porsche is pushing the technological limits with the Macan, compared to previous models. For example, the Porsche Macan EV 2024 has 3 different screens on the dashboard, including a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch touchscreen center display, and a passenger entertainment screen in the front with a size of 10.9 inches.
The driver information screen can also be equipped with augmented reality technology. It displays guidance by projecting images that appear in front of the driver’s eyes at a distance of 10 meters, corresponding to the size of an 87-inch screen. The car also integrates both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay into the augmented reality screen.
In comparison to the original Macan, the seating position in this electric version has been lowered by 28 mm and the rear passengers sit 15 mm lower.
Both versions of the Macan EV use fixed-wheel synchronous motors with a one-speed gearbox on each axle. The front motor is supplied by Bosch, while the rear motor is produced by Porsche at its manufacturing facility in Zuffenhausen, Germany.
The Macan EVs are equipped with all-wheel drive thanks to electric motors placed on each axle. The integrated battery management system allows for up to 270 kW DC charging, which can charge the car from 10-80% in just 21 minutes.
Currently, the Macan EV has 2 versions – the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo, and more versions will be added in the future. The base Macan 4 has a power output of 402 horsepower and a torque of 648 Nm. The car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 219 km/h.
Meanwhile, the Macan Turbo has a maximum power output of 630 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,128 Nm. This impressive power allows the car to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in just 3.1 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 259 km/h. This result of the new Macan Turbo is faster than the 911 GT3 with a power output of 502 horsepower. The announced operating range for both versions is 483 km per charge.
The Macan EV is equipped with a torque vectoring system (PTV) in combination with a rear differential to ensure smooth cornering.
The Macan Turbo version is equipped with an upgraded torque vectoring system – PTV Plus, which allows the rear motor to act as a differential lock.
Both versions feature all-wheel steering, which allows the rear wheels to turn up to 5 degrees in both directions to increase stability at high speeds and maneuverability at low speeds. Additionally, both models come standard with an air suspension system.
